Trev52A
Still plenty of Class 91s at Newcastle - these four named examples were noted between 1550 and 1650 on Friday 13th March 91126 91130 91107 91102 Trevor Edited March 16, 2020 by Trev52A
RMweb Premium keefer Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2020 love the pic of 130 Trevor, the latest (last?) generation of ECML loco looking towards the famous castle keep used by generations of spotters - and you couldn't really have more apt namer in the pic! 1 1

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted March 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2020 After a few hours on Doncaster station with the camera on the 16th March, probably the last time that I'll be able to enjoy that simple pleasure for awhile now, fortunately, rather than an Azuma back to Leeds, this beast provided the motive power - 91111 'For the Fallen' stands at platform 8 at Leeds waiting to depart with 1A39, 15.45 Leeds to London Kings Cross. I hope, once things have settled down, that LNER gives consideration to transferring the nameplate and suitably altered bodyside graphics onto an Azuma.
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted March 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2020 The visit to Doncaster on 16th March 2020 produced a few other class 91s on assorted, Edinburgh, Leeds and York services... 91105 waits ready to depart with 1D10, 10.33 London Kings Cross to Leeds. 91106 arrives with 1N83, 11.06 London Kings Cross to York... ...returning a little later with 1Y86, 14.02 York to London Kings Cross. 91107 Skyfall hurries through with 1S13, 11.00 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Over in Wabtec's yard the un-numbered and partially robbed for spares 91108 languishes awaiting its fate. Two Edinburgh services meet, also representing a meeting of the old and the new. Azuma 801217 rushes through on the Up Fast with 1E09, 09.30 Edinburgh to London Kings Cross as 91114 'Durham Cathedral' waits to depart with 1S12, 10.30 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. 91116 calls with 1S10, 09.30 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Always good to see 91119 'Bounds Green Intercity Depot', which arrived with 1D14, 12.33 London Kings Cross to Leeds.

Train stopped Over at Doncaster - maybe the 91s going to Wabtec (or store with 91104?) EDIT: now confirmed 91113&129 have joined 91104 in store at Doncaster Mail Terminal. Trev52A
This is a recent scan from a neg I shot on 28th June 1991 of 91029 'Queen Elizabeth' heading north out of Newcastle. The info I wrote on the neg packet says '91029, Royal Train'. Could this be the train conveying Her Majesty to officially open the electrification to Edinburgh? I should have made more precise notes at the time but unfortunately I can't seem to find the info of the occasion online anywhere. Thanks in advance for any ideas on this Trevor

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this Trevor A quick web trawl confirms that was the date of the inauguration and that the Queen was at Kings Cross. I know the 225s were very new at that time but in your photo 91029 looks suspiciously clean, like it would have been if hauling the Royal Train.

I must have been looking in the wrong place! If I remember correctly the loco was immaculate and I think it had white wheel rims/tyres. There must be other shots of this somewhere, I expect. Zomboid
That's definitely not a normal formation train, the second vehicle appears to be a buffet/ kitchen car. Can see the white rims on the loco wheels too.
Trev52A
@ Zomboid Just realised, the previous negs on my strip of 35 film showing the Royal Train included this view of it coming over the King Edward Bridge into Newcastle. A shortened train of 5 coaches plus the DVT on the rear. Looks like I legged it from the bridge to the building in the centre of Swan House roundabout for the elevated shot of the train departing north! 91029 on KEBr, 28th June 1991 Trevor Edited April 12, 2020 by Trev52A Corrected date from 1981(!) Donington Road
This caught me by surprise on the Up Slow at Werrington Junction on March 13th. 91114 failed on it's train at (Leeds?) and had been attached at the other end to 82211. The whole ensemble being dragged from Neville Hill to Bounds Green by 67002.
black and decker boy
Another 91 (116) now off lease and sent to store at Doncaster with the others. It’s MK4 continued to Worksop for storage. 1
Trev52A
Here's another view of 'Royal Train' loco 91029 at Newcastle, this time in GNER livery on 5th April 2003. In the background is 67017 standing with the second leg of a Herfordshire Rail Tours special from Kings Cross. Trevor
Trev52A
My first sight and photo of a 91: 91003 (with 91008 next in line) at Leeds on 29th May 1989. No 3 appears to have suffered slight front end damage - a high speed argument with a bird, perhaps, with traces of blood? Trevor AMENDMENT: Closer examination of my notebooks (rather than what I had written on the original slide mount) shows that the front loco was actually 91003 (not 4). My error, but why did BR have such tiny running numbers on these things in the early days? By 1990, when they reached Newcastle, the numbers were much larger, near the 'pointy' end. It's the same with today's Azumas - I predict their numbers will eventually be reapplied in a much larger style. Edited April 18, 2020 by Trev52A Added an Amendment with the correct number
black and decker boy
Another 91 (131) now off lease and sent to store at Doncaster with the others in the old Royal Mail Railnet platform. Jack Mc
04/07/2020; the first day out along the ECML for me since February 1st. Gamston LC, a couple of miles south of Retford 1Y84 York - King's Cross Mk IV DVT 82205, with 'Flying Scotswoman' livery 91130 'Lord Mayor of Newcastle Just north of Eaton Lane LC 1A37 Leeds - King's Cross Mk IV DVT 82225 91105 Then up to Doncaster, at the 'Mallard Bridge' which overlooks the old RMT platforms 66715 'Valour' and 66766 are parked ahead of the line-up of off-lease 91s. 91118 'The Fusiliers' leads 91102 'City of York', and I presume the line-up behind is the same locomotives which have been there now for some time. 1S25 King's Cross - Edinburgh 91119 'Bounds Green - Intercity Depot 1977-2017' I've also decided to add the link to my Flickr album of Class 91 photos and videos. hexagon789
Upon introduction of the final 801/2s, the number of 225 diagrams from September will be reduced to purely Leeds/York workings: BN401 1D02 0633 Kings Cross-Leeds 1A49 1916 Leeds-Kings Cross 1N36 2300 Kings Cross-York BN402 1A04 0605 Leeds-Kings Cross 1N81 0906 Kings Cross-York 1Y84 1202 York-Kings Cross 1N87 1506 Kings Cross-York 1Y90 1802 York-Kings Cross BN403 1Y00 0440 York-Kings Cross 1D06 0833 Kings Cross-Leeds 1A26 1115 Leeds-Kings Cross 1D17 1403 Kings Cross-Leeds 1A41 1645 Leeds-Kings Cross 1D30 1933 Kings Cross-Leeds Apparently the remaining sets will also be reduced to 7 Mk4+DVT to compensate for the poorer acceleration compared to Azumas for full sets. 1 2
