Micro Aggregate goods yard.

Hi this will be a small micro layout, the baseboard size is 300x150mm. The layout will be OO gauge and will incorporate an aggregates goods yard area for unloading building materials.

The baseboard has been constructed, painted and track has been laid. I will be using a stick for shunting onto my little micro layout.

More to follow:

Those coffee stirrers are the budget modeller's best friend. I remember saying to someone, "Can you believe they just give you free wood?"

Hi HonestTom thanks for your comments, coffee stirrers are free and very useful to us modellers.

Hi It looks great.

How are you going to connect the 'stick' for shunting on and off? I am in the process of forming plans for a micro layout and this is something I have struggled with.

Hi and thanks for your comments, the stick will be plain and simple. I will have the track sticking out slightly on the stick so it can be attached to the end of the point.

I hope this helps.

Thank you. That does help.

How do you connect it to the board or will it support itself against the tabletop?

Hi OOman - I thought this was quite a clever solution to joining small modules?

Not all Forum members agreed and gave me lots of advice about the different connectors which could be used. I am still working on a larger layout which is 9ft long, but in three 3ft sections. At present, I have some clip-fit connectors for the power and bolts physically connecting the boards, with suitcase clasps at the sides, which I think will do for me in the meantime. Always open to advice from more experienced modellers.

Hi I received my 2mm plasticard today and started to model the brick wall area of the layout. Scribing has been completed but tedious and wall is fixed in its place, ready for painting up and weathering.

I also started work on one of the concrete slab section, painted and weathered up. Pleased with the result.

Work progressed this morning on the glueing down the concrete sections and painting and weathering the walled section of my layout.

I must say I’m really pleased with the way the concrete and wall has turned out.

I'm going to concentrate on the left hand side of the platform area by building and wood fence and to leave a small gap so I can put some foliage behind.

More to come as I plan to build a yard crane for the larger concrete loading area.

Hi Kevin,

Wow. What a lovely looking layout. The painting and weathering of the wall and the concrete is particularly convincing. Great work!

Chris

Hi Chris I did not expect a wow, but thanks for the great comments. I think when your weathering things are in the lap of the gods as it could go either way. But I’m pleased it’s turned out great.

Hi this afternoon I have completed the ballasting. I went with the brown ballast this time as I have seen some yards use this colour and I am pleased with the results.

Need to let the ballast dry out properly now. More to follow soon.

You are fairly cracking on with this one, OOman! Some nice effects there. :good_mini:

Hi Marly51! Thanks for your nice comments. This little layout is really coming together nicely now, but things will slow down as I need to concentrate on the loading area.

I need to source a little forklift some pallets and sacks of aggregate.

Work progressed a little further on my micro layout. The ballast has set so I started to add clumps of grass where it would grow in a yard. I managed to scrounge some tiny flowers from my wife’s flower display schhhh:)

Which has turned out really well.

On the opposite loading area I have added a fence and a gate which I am pleased with. I need to source a couple of buffer stops which will be cut down.

more to follow.

Waiting for building supplies to arrive to add to the goods yard.

Excellent weed and weathering work there!

Instead of buffers on the front (or rear) siding, you could place a sleeper or two, chained or tied to the rails. Perhaps even a stack of sleepers and rail where the siding carried on, but has been truncated and lifted. Cheaper than buying a proper bufferstop too, both in the model world and the real one!

Hi TechnicArrow! Thanks for the lovely comments. Funny enough I was thinking about using a couple of railway sleeps with chains the other day. It’s a change from the normal buffer stops.

Thanks to everyone for the likes it means a lot to me.:good_mini:

More progress today on my micro layout. The grass has been completed but just need to add a few small wild flowers.

Pallets and sacks have been painted and fixed in place, also a few railway sleepers have been added.

I have a couple of oil drums to paint up and a couple of sleepers with chains will be added to the layout as I don’t want to use normal buffer stops, apart from that I will be waiting to order a crane and a lorry for the loading area.

I hope you like my latest pictures.
