doctor quinn
Not sure if this is entirely appropriate for this section as it's a road vehicle, but it is for the "darkside"......... I've made some progress on the log truck for Wheelock Mill. The tractor is an Atlas Ford L9000 with a Herpa/Promotex log cranes and a "Headache rack" soldered up from paperclip wire. The trailer is a Walthers container trailer with scratch built log bunks from square section Evergreen styrene.
Adrian Wintle
Aside from a) being far too clean, and B) not having lettering on the cab, that does look the part. For reference, most cabs will have some indication of the owner/operator, and will have various sets of numbers that are applicable to the weigh stations and/or various trucking regulations. If you want to add an interesting detail, a lot of tractors (cabs) in northern areas will have a brush (sometimes a broom head) mounted bristles-up on the tank top so that the driver can scrape the snow/mud off their boots as they climb in. It would also probably have a pair of CB antennas (whips) mounted on the wing mirrors (oops, it would have some prominent wing mirrors too...). I doubt if the chair on the log loader would be used (or even be present) - it takes far too much effort to climb up. There would likely be a control panel at the base of the device. Adrian Wintle
Nice looking rig.Does any one know where you can get mirrors etc. for HO trucks? Plano seems to do some details. I don't model HO, but I have heard of them: http://www.planomodelproducts.com/vehicled_scq.html Adrian
doctor quinn
Thanks for the kind words and information - a pair of "West Coast Mirrors" and some ownership decals will be the next little project. I must admit to being a bit remiss on the mirrors as in the past I have soldered them up from brass strip & wire. As on this Danish Volvo: http://www.flickr.co...57600214346579/ Now if I can just find an HO broom head.............. Nick

298
Thanks for the kind words and information - a pair of "West Coast Mirrors" and some ownership decals will be the next little project. Nick Why does a Vermont logging truck need West Coast mirrors...? Or is it for another project...?
doctor quinn
Why does a Vermont logging truck need West Coast mirrors "West Coast" mirrors are the very large rear view mirrors, usually chromed. Depending on who you ask there are two reasons for the name, one is that they are so big you could see clear over to the West Coast, the other suggestion is that they first became popular in California.
