Is the class 40 at Nairn on a passenger working, or is the BG in the consit of a freight train?

The caption says it is the 14:48 to inverness Nov 1980. Here's another view of it as well some nice shots of the goods shed.

Slightly OT picture, but it's funny how the Thompson?? coach is the most modern one in this breakdown train passing through Nairn. Can anyone ID the panelled coach?

That's an interesting siting for a goods shed, useful for modellers short of space.  By 1980 it must be disused, otherwise why would park your Bedford truck there?  It isn't very clear from the above photos, but I have found another online, here that shows there is an end loading ramp only accessible by going through the goods shed, another interesting space saving feature.

Nairn breakdown train

The one nearest the camera is a Gresley coach of some sort (from the domed roof ends) but with some quite serious re-panelling of the sides.

Hi There,

From information on page 478/9 of Peter Tatlow's Railway Breakdown Cranes Volume Two:

It is former WCJS low arc roof 50' corridor third No. 245 from Dia. 52 from 1903. The hump in the middle of the roof is a retro fitted water tank when converted to be part of the Inverness breakdown train as No. DM198641 and was LMS crimson until the early 1970's when it was painted bright red. It was taken into preservation in 1982 by the Strathspey railway but is now at the Scottish Museum Trust at Bo'ness.

Gibbo.

The track appears to have been lifted on the goods shed road after the points; there appears to be a large sheet of ply or similar laid over the ballast under the lorry,

Cheers Gibbo. Although even with that information I found it difficult to find any pictures of it which is strange for a preserved coach, but it seems to be this coach pictured here at The Scottish Preservation Society website.

And here's the other coach
