Quarry-Steam65
Looking forward to how this progresses as I’ve only seen the preservation Rothley, it’ll be nice to see it in it's original form
RMweb Gold farren Posted May 19, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 19, 2020 I was looking at the bridge last night and relished I’d missed some things. So added the buttresses ( Or what ever they’re called) now with the other end also done,
RMweb Gold farren Posted May 27, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2020 Been busy part of the track as been relaid to try to get the drool stoves R to run better but to no avail! scratch built the coal merchants building which doesn’t look to bad on the layout and some scenery work as been carried out.
RMweb Gold farren Posted June 13, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) Bit more work the goods shed is under construction waiting for some brick red paint. Not sure about the size but I double checked buy the number of bricks/ rows and seems right. And a bit more scenery first trees done, something I’ll have to look into as I’m not happy with the trunks maybe some sort of liquid plastic might work better. Here’s some photos. RMweb Gold farren Posted July 19, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2020 More scenic work done some trees added some I have made still learning how to build them. There some old bought one visible which I’ve just inherited from the gentleman who got me into trains back in the mists of time 1978. Also working on signals for the layout, yes they are LMS but I want to be able to reuse them in the future, as the old GCR was under the MR control then a argument could be made.
RMweb Gold farren Posted September 10, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2020 A couple of signals are now fitted With servos and lights but they aren’t wired up yet. The signals move when power is switch on but the controller just won’t let me use them so it Seems I’m going to have to lash out on a new DCC controller. and work progresses on a Garratt but waiting for some parts hopefully will turn up tomorrow. It was pulled around the layout to make sure it didn’t sort the layout out before the valve gear was added. Hopefully testing at ever stage will make tracking down problems easy. tigerburnie
I'd be interested to see how this is progressing, I am having thoughts of having a go at building another GC layout based on Whetstone station area.
RMweb Gold farren Posted August 27, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 27, 2021 It progress a little since I last posted, However I have switched allegiances to Pre war LMS and British rail 1980’s. So Rothley Future is uncertain and the new station is needed to encompass both LMS and British rail yet to be found. But here’s some photos of where it got up to.

Why not keep it as it is and in your little world, the GC London extension was never closed (neither had the another former GC line, the Woodhead route). I think it would be very difficult to find another station in the BR blue era that had not been significantly altered from pre-war LMS, but happy to be proved wrong. RMweb Gold farren Posted August 27, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 27, 2021 (edited) To a certain degree I agree with you, it could become more of a what if and work quite well. However I have quite a few locomotives and a engine shed would help to have them on show to some degree and not just sitting on a bord at the back of the layout like so Edited August 27, 2021 by farren
RMweb Gold farren Posted August 27, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 27, 2021 I suppose I could leave the station and change the second half of the layout
RMweb Gold TravisM Posted August 27, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 27, 2021 I forgot to mention in my last post that if your going for pre-war Rothley, it would have to be LNER and not LMS.
RMweb Gold farren Posted August 27, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 27, 2021 (edited) Oh yes I know, I was modelling British Railways 1950’s i like the black5s jubilees etc which were seen on GC at those times. ( The coronations where there because I love them) however I switched to LMS pre war over the last few months lots of painting things crimson as can be seen in the photos. So Rothley becomes surplus to requirement other then to run my models on. At the same time all diesel started to turn blue not all done yet… Born 1971 so I remember the British Rail Blue. Well any of my stock not fitting into either period BR standards LNER stock as been sold off over the last few months. The only things that don’t fit but are not being sold are the Bachmann BR black Crain, special edition golden orchid 31, and my New City of Leicester OK I ordered it before I switched to LMS and could have cancelled it but its my Home city and well why not. tigerburnie
The thing with the Great Central is that so many locos from different regions travelled over the metals, especially loco spotters specials, one of the reasons I have decided to return to the GC is the fact that you could have ex GWR, LNER, LMS and all the Standard BR and still be following prototype after a fashion, there were some stock that did not visit Leicestershire, but not many. Sir TophamHatt
Just a quick post to say that's a pretty nice layout. Family live in Rothley and we got some wedding photos at this very station. Good work!
RMweb Gold farren Posted November 10, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2021 Thank you Sir Toohamhatt, my first attempt at a proper layout. Living in Leicester I’ve been there many a time, and can see the station offering some lovely backdrops for your photos. Unfortunately the layout is now on borrowed time. As plans are a foot for a more appropriate sitting for all the LMS stock. The new layout will be Chorley, However Rothley will last a while longer for running sessions, while work is concentrated on the new buildings.
