ColHut
G'day, Just trying to find out if there were any ornate or even plain brick arched type rail entries into private sidings or yards through perimiter walls.. I am thinking a gas works or other industrial complex. I am aware of the general need for gates on private sidings at the boundary, and protections, trap points scotch blocks. The layout is 1930s but the siding might be as old as the 1850s. It would be nice to be able to combine the siding gate with a brick arch through a perimiter wall. regards
RLWP
Not a good image: https://www.cgwht.org/ Chances Glass Works in Smethwick had two connections to the railway via bridges over the canal, ornate gatehouses and wagon turntables Anything is possible... RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted August 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 25, 2019 Try this - now hideously modernised as a cycle way http://bristol-rail.co.uk/wiki/Keynsham 1
ColHut
Thanks both very much. I have looked at so many pictures of gas works with so many search criteria my eyes were going funny. They look like a good excuse for me! regards
RMweb Gold unravelled Posted August 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 25, 2019 These two pictures are of a gateway near Silvertown station site. I don't know if it had an arch, but I wouldn't be surprised. It served a jam factory. I like the amount of skew on the inset track, to get on to the site Dave
