Fab show as ever, thank you to all who made it possible, and especial thanks to Terry for having successfully organised the last ten shows, whilst maintaining good humour and a cheerful demeanour throughout, as far as I have experienced.

Not an easy job as demonstrated above(!!) you'll never please all of the people all of the time.

Some of the people some of the time?

Oh well, although I do wonder whether some people want to be pleased at all....

The aisles were very spacious, its a huge hall, and its not a public show and doesn't actually need to be rammed all day long or even turn a profit, so I think we needn't worry too much about it either way.

If as a society member you have thoughts/feeling about it, then fair enough, but in all conscience I don't really understand why anyone else should feel the need to complain about what was a really fine show by anyone's standards - especially on a public forum:rolleyes:

I think it is classed as a public show, not just entry for members only?

Mike.

I mean not a public show in the sense that it "has to please the public", sorry, not very well put, I think I know what I mean...

I can see the logic but if the difficulties with public transport don't provide an answer to the poor attendance at Scaleforum then what does?

This is a photo I took at around 2 on Saturday:

Regards

Should have turned the camera a bit over 90 degrees to the right and seen the scrum on the bring and buy stand, I believe it took about 20 minutes or so to get to the front of the queue to pay.

The walk to the station is about a mile. I know I did it twice on Friday evening and once on Saturday as it was on the way to and from the pub.

I enjoyed the exhibition (I was operating on London Road) and thought it was very good. Some traders did well as the items I was wanting had sold out in the firs hour on Saturaday whilst I was doing my stint.

IMHO, the nub of the various society shows is to provide a sort of 3D newsletter, it's a member benefit, part of what you pay your subs for, it would lose the ambience if it was a hundred mile an hour show with no time to socialise, not operate constantly, etc, etc, ultimately numbers through the door are largely irrelevant. (although I realise a profit would be nice, but generally the idea is to minimise losses).

Public/non members are a welcome side effect, all societies need new members to keep going.

This was my first visit to this show and I  enjoyed it  learning from demonstrators was a bonus in a calm atmosphere plus chatting to some interesting people. The layouts were exceptional especially Burntisland  thanks to the operator who explained the rail bridge to the ferry and its history also for the details of Perth show.I made a purchase of ballast from an excellent trader who I recommend people to have a look at and also bought roadstone which duly used on my layout looks great.I will be back next year as this is a totally different show one which gives you the chance to talk to exhibitors and ask how did you do that, thanks to everyone for a good visit.

Googley maps says Aylesbury Station is closer...whatever did we do before google and its maps?...just tell it where you going and it tells you how and when and where to catch the bus, the train, the tram, the metro, etc

If you want to walk then use street view to check your route, also really good when driving to a town you've never been to before, you can check out the road junctions in the comfort of your own home, with you slippers on and a cup of tea in your hand...

On a serious note though, I don't think transport is a dampener on attendance at Scalefourm, does Railex suffer?...having said that the car park at Railex does get rather full...

I find that this show and Railex are each amongst the best of their kind and always attempt to visit both.

I missed this years show as I was unwell, but I hope that this will not have impacted too drastically upon turnover.

The pictures posted by RedKiterail go a long way to illustrating just how good some of this year's exhibits were.

I am sorry that I missed it!

I drove to the show, as I have done in previous years (and to Railex); this is the first time I've found the designated parking area full - I was directed to a rather remote additional parking area, behind the boilerhouse. So evidently numbers can't have been so very bad. I was arriving earlier than I usually do (11am rather than 2pm-ish, on the Sunday) and did nip out to move my car closer later - not wanting to be caught out by heavy rain towards the end of the afternoon!

If you look on Google maps you'll see pretty safe on-street parking to the east in Elm Farm Road and surrounding roads. It's then a short walk under the railway bridge to the venue. I always do that and enjoy the fresh air taking the purchases back to the car before going back in for round 2 (and more purchases!). This works for me as I've come up the A41 from the M25, then dropped down through Bedgrove.

Railex  tends to get around 3-4 times the amount of people that Scalefourum gets maybe because we are a multiscale show.

We also run our free vintage bus which tends to get pretty busy too, Scalefourum did run a bus for a few years but it didn't seem to get used and therefore the costs it took to run became rather costly.

I always felt Scalefourum should be in a more lounge type location rather than a sports hall to give it more of a intimate atmosphere. Stoke Mandeville Stadium does need quite a few people in it to get a buzz.

If coming by train then Aylesbury station is the closest and much easier to get from rather than Stoke Mandeville, taxis are around £4.00

A few from me.

A telephoto view along the viaduct (probably my favourite view of the layout):
