*Manicouagan
Hello everyone, after too many mistakes, my Double tuning fork layout project failed miserably. So I'm back with a much smaller project: build a small layout in a cardboard box. You can see a photo of the box below. Is it a good or a (as always) a very bad idea ? All your input are welcome. Thanks
RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted September 6, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2019 It’s amazing what can be achieved in such a small space, plus you have the added bonus of protecting your layout.
Jeff P
Don't have any experience building on cardboard but I'd say another layer of cardboard on whichever will be the bottom surface would probably be a good thing...support, an additional layer to secure track, etc.
*Manicouagan
I'll put a piece of chipboard on the bottom surface. A little more weight is needed because the box is very light.

And to make sure I actually build the things... You've made a good start with the solid base here, and you should be able to get a surprising amount of detail into the space. The other important thing I'd suggest is to always try buildings out as simple mock-ups first, to make sure everything fits and looks right. And with such a small horizontal area, use as much vertical space as possible so the trains don't dominate the scene. I hope this layout goes better than the last one! 1

Just what I already did !

RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted September 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2019 The mock-up of your box layout looks great, it’s best I think to do mock-ups so you know if it’s going to look right and if not things can be altered. Look forward to seeing more of your work. 2
