RMweb Premium polybear Posted September 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2019 The most impressive bit for me is the machines that make the models.

RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted September 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2019 Fascinating. I was surprised to see how much is done by hand!
Philou
Well! Having watched that video - is it any wonder that a decent model will set you back c. £200? I think Roco locos are assembled in Europe (looked that way in the video) hence their higher price tag. Very illuminating! Cheers, Philip

Especially when you consider that £33 of that £200's VAT, which leaves £167 to cover production costs and overheads, packaging, shipping, warehousing and whatnot, new product development and both manufacturer's and retailers' profit margins ...
letterspider
You only pay VAT if you make a profit?

No. You pay VAT on purchases and charge VAT on sales. You pay Corporation tax on net profit if a company, income tax if a an individual.
letterspider
Thanks for uploading this video. Reminds me of stories about ladies assembling fiddly vacuum tubes by hand - the UK was a world leader until the semi-conductor industry undercut the industry in speed and cost. I imagine something similar will happen with 3D printing in the near future?
