Tony Davis
I'm looking for an alternative to the Northwest Shortline Chopper, to cut lengths of plastic strip and balsa. I wondered if a cheaper alternative was available. I did a search on this site, and TC-100-M ROD & TIMBER CUTTER FOR MODEL MAKERS, was recommended, but doesn't seem to be available on Ebay any more. Thanks, Tony
jonhall
I use one of these (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Multi-Angle-Guillotine-Cut-Wood-Strips-Easily-Model-Making-/141113151088 (made in England would you believe. I've added a green cutting mat base, and an adjustable end stop is essential, but they are easy modifications to make. Jon 1

Jon It's worth bearing in mind that these are only for lightweight work though - they flex if trying anything too heavy
Tony Davis
It would only be for microstrip and balsa (for sleepers) Thanks both
Kiwi
How about the Proses version: https://www.petersspares.com/proses-tc-100-m-timber-rod-cutter.ir Possibly available from other suppliers as well, this was just the first I found.

Jon That looks interesting Jon, but are replacement blades easy enough to obtain please, or are they just conventional "Stanley Knife" blades? 2mm Andy
Another option that I found recently is one of these; https://www.railwayhobby.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=499 I've not ordered anything from the manufacturer so can't comment on quality, robustness, etc. Andy

Thanks Cat Looks promising, however to my mind there does seem to be an awful lot of razor blade left unsupported and therefore prone to flexing. Is there any way the blade could be supported more?
