Welsh layout that was featured in the Constructor

A bit of a long shot this, but, I'm trying to find an article that appeared in the old Model Railway Constructor, it featured a welsh valleys terminus off which there was an incline to a kickback and some colliery sidings which were built over the fiddle yard, does this ring a bell with anyone please?

Terry Onslows "Trefolwen" was a Welsh terminus, with an incline to a low-level goods yard, though I'm not sure about sidings over the fiddle yard.

It featured in the May 1982 Model Railway Constructor (image from Ebay, but unable to post link!)...

I can't find my copy to post the track plan, but someone else may be able to.

Regards

Dan

Hi,

I might well be falling into a 'Welsh-Valleys-look-alike' trap here but the description sounds and track plan looks  to me like one of my old favourites; Blaenycwm.

I used to but no longer have a magazine with it in a very long time ago, but if it is that then I have a vhs to cd dvd transfer I did years ago from the short lived Railscale series (would have loved to see the N gauge project finished...), in fact I've just run it to confirm my memory of it.

Too late tonight, but if it sounds right to you I could try running it through my 'puter tomorrow, hopefully some screen grabs might be copyright allowable given the age of the material...

Regards, Gerry.

Many Thanks for the replies, Blaenycwm is the layout I was looking for.

Hi Ian,

Glad to have been of help. Just couldn't help loving it the moment I opened the pages back then, when I got hold of the Railscale vhs (Vol.3, a search may find copies - Amazon had one a couple of days ago) I was probably more excited by Blaenycwm than any of the others on the tapes.

Colour! Movement! Growling Gears! Solenoid Cluncks! (really informative commentary) - Magic!!!

I really hope the attached screen grabs don't create problems for Admin/Mods...

So the big question is - what issue is it in?

I had a look through a pile of MRC and couldn't find it (but did find "Trefolwen" !  How useless is that?).

I believe Blaenycwm was also built by North Gwent....?

As was Swn-y-Mor in RM April 1993, a compact LNWR seaside location.

Not an April Fool's article as far as I can tell!
