RMweb Premium melmerby Posted September 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) Further to the above, the shop as is: As you can see it will be next to Swordfish Records, for those that know the area. The notice on the door says opening soon but no start has yet been made on the shop fitting out. It's also IMHO a bit out of the way, being up a cul-de-sac off a road (Newton Street), off Corporation Street but near to the QE2 law courts. (Above it is office space) Edited September 12, 2019 by melmerby 1

Simon It says on the website "A specialist rail, road, air, maritime transport and military book and model shop" Rather like Ian Allan it would seem.
Steamport Southport
I don't know Birmingham very well. But I know where that is. Just around the corner from Scruffy Murphy's, the local rock pub. Jason

RMweb Premium melmerby Posted October 31, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2019 Just been in the shop. It's quite compact. There is a reasonable selection of die cast items. plastic kits, Bachmann Scenecraft & Woodland scenics. Small selection of books on various subjects. No actual trains (as yet!). Apparently the Bachmann rep is visiting next week and they will see if they can get a suitable deal. The margin on trains is very small for a small business, considering the initial outlay. 1 1 2

Crantock
The shelfspace in Birmingham devoted to books and models has collapsed. On books one of 2 Waterstones has closed and the survivor seems to have lost much of at least one floor if not more. WH Smith is now a ground floor shop that shouts "short lease" and a large upper floor has gone. Ian Allan has gone. On models - Modelzone, Modelzone in WHS, Ian Allan, the Wonderful World of ......short leases, the wargamers hole under the library etc all gone. I will visit Tornado some time but they don't seem to have abandoned IAs short opening hours policy. Visited Parabellum on Vyse Street (military but some limited use for paints) but I need to lose weight before I next visit as its a bit tight. Exhibitions are the way forward for me. RMweb Gold Strathwood Posted December 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) The guys at Tornado have taken good stocks of all of our titles, so pop along and give them some support as an early New Year's resolution not to break.
