Unfortunately I'm not able to get to my own personal pinnacle of exhibitions this year, but am looking forward to seeing Aerodrome Park break cover after its unfortunate absence from Stevenage earlier in the year. Hopefully Adrian will be adding photographs of it and the other layouts to the website after the event.

Subject to any further 'Acts of God' I anticipate 'Midland in Bristol' will have some movement of rolling stock which was sadly lacking at Aylesbury Railex... no more radio control, just good old DCC now....!

Another layout appearing at Uckfield is October's Continental Modeller's Railway of the Month - De Graafstroom.

Built by Vincent de Bode and two friends the layout will be making its first trip to the UK from Holland.

Vincent is probably better known in the UK for his GER P4 layout Flintfield.

The layout is built to P87 standards using 12.26mm gauge track to represent the prototypes 3ft 6in gauge.

Featuring various animations including the sailing barge, swan, lifting bridge and of course the sound fitted trains this will be one to see.

Two of the layouts appearing at the show,  Blueball Summit and Midland in Bristol, feature heavily in the latest edition of Model Railway Journal (MRJ 274) which has just been published.

Also Bottom Works Sidings appears in the Cameo Gems feature and elsewhere.

There may be a few copies of MRJ 274 on sale at the show for those who don't have it on subscription and can't wait to find it in a WH Smiths - that is if the exhibitors don't beat you to them!

Another excellent show put on by Adrian & the Uckfield club.  The standard of all of the layouts was exceptional (no surprise there) and a good range of traders, although wasn't after much today.  Worth a visit tomorrow if you are in the area.

Another quality show as always.

I normally head down on a Sunday as it’s quieter and easier to park...this became apparent after trawling two car parks before parking in Waitrose...which gave me a lean 90 minutes show time!

My main reason for going was to see the terrific Blueball Summit, which looked fab since I last saw it in Cheltenham. Good Long chat with Andy too!

I also liked the simplicity of the 7mm layout Orford and beautiful scenery, whilst Elcot Road (P4) and Bottom Works Sidings (00) both hit the spot!

Whilst not really a fan of Narrow Gauge the Dutch layout De Graafstroom is thoroughly engaging and a real pleasure to get drawn into the scenery.

My time ran out to quickly on my parking but rather than face a £70 ticket I cut and run...well worth a visit though today if you can. A few iPhone pics below from my favourites...

Thanks to Adrian and all the organisers - see you next year!

I can only echo Pete’s comments, a superb show with very high quality layouts. Im so glad I made the trip over as seeing Blueball Summit in the flesh was worth it alone.

I also loved the moving boat on Swan on De Graafstroom!

Congratulations Adrian & team on a great show!

I would say that Blueball is the first time a diesel-era N gauge layout has held me enthralled - the quality of modelling is superb. I'm not overly keen on sound on exhibition layouts but the roar of the Paxman engines (along with a cloud of noxious diesel exhaust fumes) was the only thing missing when the HST went through.

Also, I found it very encouraging to overhear quite a few parents encouraging their children to take an intelligent and enquiring interest in the layouts.

What was the outcome of the visitors' best layout poll? I found picking out just three layouts very difficult but I suspect that I was not alone in putting De Graafstroom first. It has features that sound gimmicky but really, really weren't when seen in the flesh.

Every layout polled at least one first place on a voting form thereby being at least someone's favourite.

Top three were:

1) De Graafstroom (P87n3.5) by Vincent de Bode, Peter van der Kooij and Claude Moinier

2) Blueball Summit (British N) by Andrew Bartlett

3) Fen End Pit (16mm scale) by David Barham

As an exhibitor at this show, I would just like to say that the hospitality  offered to us by the hosting club was nothing short of superb.  As soon as we arrived, we were offered assistance to unload the van and carry stuff in. Cups of tea were brought to us at the layout regularly throughout the weekend. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

I rather liked, but didn't vote for, that tiny little triangular industrial layout - Thakenham Tiles. The operator seemed to be spending all weekend loading up his two tipplers, moving them 15", the unloading them - the sequence took about a minute and a half. If I'd been in his place I would have been screaming by Saturday lunchtime and vowing that my next layout would be Clapham Junction! I'm glad to learn that someone put him first.

De Graafstroom which as well as the most votes in the Public vote also picked up the Keith Nock Memorial Trophy as the favourite layout of members, exhibitors and  the trade.

The layout from the Netherlands measures some 12ft long with a scenic section 10ft  wide into the wings (7ft opening) x 3ft 10in deep.

It goes from this:

degraafstroom01.jpg.0bab93d8f68579ceed182fe1465fd1a8.jpg

To this for transportation:

degraafstroom02.jpg.daae7acb89c720d11ce3c51448e4f25c.jpg

The baseboard on the right, which is sitting in the lid of the transportation box, is lifted up and goes on top of the board on the left, sitting on its four peg feet.

The lid is then put on and the whole thing then lifted onto the roof rack on the car - total weight box and layout is 35kg.

The box has proved to be very watertight given the weather on Friday!

More pictures will soon be published in the exhibition retrospective.
