Sheepyard Creek

Hi all,

 

I've been using this forum as a source of inspiration and general browsing for many years now. Having had a lot of false starts, I've pushed myself to finish building a layout. 

 

So here it is at only 71x21 cm. Set in Victoria, Australia. Sheepyard creek is a fictitious goods only stopping place. The idea being it was part of a station that has been shortened and on its last legs of operation.

I still have a few little details to add here and there, such as people and goods for the platform etc. I tried a lot of new things with this small layout, my first attempts at weathering and blending ground covers.

Love this, given its only 71cm in length it would be ideal for a Really Useful Box wrapping paper box.  Could you possibly post a full length image of the layout and also a track plan.  It appears there is simply one point plus a “display” siding. Is that correct ?

Thanks again for your kind words. The scenic section of the layout is 71cm with a detachable fiddle yard approx 60cm salvaged from an old layout, which is more than enough. I sourced the back scene from a company called haskell, it has an adhesive backing. The track plan is indeed a single point with a single track siding next to it. As requested, an overall view;

 

 

I have the layout sitting on an ironing board which keeps my Modelling table free.

Alex, thanks for update.  So, excluding fiddle, it really is a contender for a further Really Useful Box wrapping paper box project adopting a Scale Model Scenery baseboard kit.  I’ll add to my list !

Superb little layout. The overall view is inspiring me. I have one last IKEA APA box and some On30 stock. I've been looking for something like this layout to kickstart the project.

One further question please.  Is the “display” siding linked to the fiddle extension or is it simply to display stock ?

I wish those APA boxes would make a comeback...have an O scale idea I think they'd be great for...

I've allowed space for both tracks to be connected to the fiddle stick, however, its more to simulate that something else is happening further down the yard. I think the illusion of this helps give more atmosphere to micro layouts.

Hi Mark,

 

Thanks for reminding me of this project, I've just trawled through an old phone to replace the lost images.

This layout found it's way to the bin around the end of 2019 as I didn't wire the electro-frog point properly. It simply didn't run well enough for shunting back and forth.

I had tried to replace it but it was unsuccessful. I've built multiple layouts since.

 

Here is my current layout, very similar with a single point. It is yet to be completed.

my sincerest apologies for not having replied sooner and many thanks for re-linking the photos. So sorry to hear about the layout's demise, such a shame as it was visually stunning. Still, I do understand why, and I must admit to doing the same on a number of occasions!
