Owd Bob
I made some WW1 wagons to go with the 'Tin Turtle' but the first two came out a bit too big and looked more like seven inch gauge scale, so i made two more this time they looked to be more in a 5" scale. All were made from old pallet wood and some boards and off cut lathes i'd been given. Only the two smaller wagons got chassis and wheels put on them. As usual the bills had to be paid and they all got sold off, although the two bigger tubs lasted for a few years as planters. 2
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2020 That’s the most genius set of model sheet metal rollers I’ve ever seen! 5
Owd Bob
Thanks Paul and all the others for your continued interest & support. I've just acquired a sit on mower back axle/gear box for the loco' i'm hoping to cut it down narrow enough to be able to drive the bogies wheels. It's a simple forward, neutral and reverse set up and also has a brake disc fitted which is handy, i'm sure in my own daft way i'll make it all work. I've had it all apart and all seems well with no cracked or chipped gears or cogs, all the bearings are ok ....now where's the grinder! 6

Owd Bob
Cheers CME After several weeks of dynamic inactivity laying up in bed after my back op' was finally done i've now got permission off the physio guy to do a bit more moving about I've started this by easing myself into bending the alloy roof and bonnet panels, two pieces of 3" x 2" wooden posts were clamped either side of the sheets, quite easy as the 1.5mm. thick alloy is soft enough to bend by hand. Was lucky to be watching the web cams at the Talyllyn Railway a few weeks back and the loco' type i'm copying off was sat right under the cam' in Pendre yard, so i was able to do some real 'rivet counting' I've guessed at the positions and used 4mm alloy rivets. A strengthening rib was added to the middle of the bonnet with 4mm rivets in roughly the right place, the central rib also as fixing holes drilled in to it to attach it to the loco's frame. Although on the real thing the bonnet is made up of two panels i've left this in one piece for strength and i'll cut a light line to represent the gap between the two later. The sit on mower axle has now been cut and overhauled with plenty of help from 'Her indoors' and a visiting mate. A new ball bearing was put in on the gear change link bar and it's all fully stuffed with new grease. I'll need to mask up and get out for some new supplies today, enough to keep me busy over the coming nice weekend and it will keep my head going well into next week. I'll also need to get some paint on these panels before it gets too cold outside. 3

Owd Bob
More great stuff Stu' but why post 'em on here when you have your own great thread mate, i'm sure we'd all love to see more of your railway, and wagon builds posted. No probs' with the recovering and treatment pal, i've been waiting far too long for it so i won't mess it up now, And owt being done here is easy stuff and mostly done with help from others and very slowly. 4
Owd Bob
My mate came around over the weekend and did some cutting and drilling for me, i just did the easy stuff and stuck the rivets and bolts in the holes and then sprayed the bonnet up. Managed to get and fitted two alloy cupboard door handles which i found at the local DIY shop for ten bob each! The two side panels can be etch primed today whilst its surprisingly lovely warm weather, i do still need eight more smaller handles for the side panels which i can find and add later.....and cheap i hope! It all adds a bit of interest and detail rather than plain blank sides. 6
Owd Bob
Trial & loose fitting some panels whilst the Sun shines, most will need spacers behind them, so i'll be using large rubber tap washers in the hope of stopping any future rattling. I'm hoping to get the steel cab panels tacked on this week. The mock fuel filler is the top screw on/off half of a kids pound shop bike bell. I have a mock oil breather as well to make but i do have all the parts. I forgot to add the cab roof when i took these pics' it is finished and just needs some hinges fitting and painting up. 5

Awesome OB! Proper 'back street mechanicing'! I'm blown away. Love diesel type industrials on the narrow gauge, much better, to my mind than mainline outline on your gauge, each to their own and no value judgements made of course. Just my opinion. Keep em coming I'm enthralled.
Owd Bob
We got the grille squares cut out of the two bonnet side panels over the last few days so as to fit two metal grilles which i got off e-bay a several months ago, they look to be 1960's ex military surplus to me and came in the usual MOD type brown paper so they are well made and look to be enameled. I've riveted them on from the rear using the grilles original fixing holes, and we put a bit of 'No Nails' around the grille/hole edges to act as a sealant. The round hole is for a future fuel gauge which may or may not be a working one, but i do have the chrome surround and the glass to fit into it. I'm not happy with the red paint i got for the loco' as seen already painted on the bonnet, so i'll be stripping that lot off soon! lol. Ten small alloy kitchen drawer door handles for the side panels have been ordered, only eight are needed but they were a job lot going cheap they have'nt arrived yet, so there's a few more holes to drill before i can even think about what paint and colour to use on it next. 6

NickBrad
Just breezed through all of this, I hope you manage to sort things out and enjoy the fruits of your labours when the loco is finished.
