Alterstone Shed n gauge MPD

Hi guys.

I thought I would add my layout to the forum as it may be of interest to some modellers.

my layout is called Alterstone Shed and it is a fictitious location. I like to collect n gauge locos and stock and I have a keen interest in DCC sound and modifying locomotives.

the period is BR steam / diesel nearing the end of steam and it is a LMR location. I have completed all the track work and wiring of points etc so lots of fun still to be had!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and I’m very keen to hear anyone’s comments or suggestions.

here are some pics of the overall layout which is 17ft x 4ft

That’s amazing - thank you! And I think I saw you and your layout at the n gauge show? I’m a big fan of your stuff

Started an interesting sound conversion for my layout this evening with an 08 that I’ve had lying around and never really been able to use....

Instead of compromising the speaker And stay I’m going to permanently couple two 16t wagons as that will suit my layout just fine.

For the power pack it’ll be good for 3,760uf and the speaker is biggest I can squeeze into the 1st buddy wagon. The decoder is a zimo mx649.

that’s it for tonight’s session. Next time will be locating all the wires through the wagons and getting in wired up!

Had an extremely productive but very boring weekend working back on the layout   Because my shunter sound conversion fell flat right at the end. (Short on amp)

Anyway, I had been putting it off for months but all the fiddle yard points have been modified for polarity switching. Feels so good to have it all done.

Also what makes it take even longer is my choice to add dcc concept powerbase magnets to all track. Long but well worth it.

Hi,

Yes I like your layout.  I am happy to see your work stained locos and rolling stock. I think you have the foundations for a really excellent layout, I will add it to my 'Following ' list and look forward to future updates.

Cheers

Duncan

Agree with Duncan,

lovely to see this type of layout with weathered stock, so often its not in N gauge and whilst I understand that I much prefer the weathered approach.

Is that Modelu 3D print lamps you have on some of your locos? If not I highly recommend them, even more so now the print material has changed.

Hope you'll forgive me poluting your thread with a picture of a lamped A4.

Ah wow, working lamps nice, now that's a nice touch.

Modelu prints are highly recommended if you enjoy modifying out the box models. I use their prints for both lamps and loco crew. Well worth a look.

Track is finetrax, basically code 40 done to N gauge standards.

Hallo,

Just want to agree to many of the above posts, the layout is great. I am a BR Blue era fan, mid 70s to early 80s and am old enough to remember the end of the 60s, early 70s first hand, shortly after the period you are modelling.

This does bring back memories of that time.

Well done, am very impressed

Absolutely bonkers couple of weekends working on the layout. Sadly not much to look at, but certainly a lot has been done. I’ve actually completed the layout now, in terms of all the points and electrics and finally the powerbase magnets. I reckon I’ve put in 4x 12hr days solid to take this over the finish line. Most of the work has been on the rear fiddle yard and it all runs beautifully

I must admit it feels amazing to finally get in done. My attention can now be turned to the scenery at long last - starting with the back scene and going from there.

I decided to make full use of the coaling tower by adding another siding To serve it with two roads. This means I can move my ash plant back onto the new siding, which looks better and provides more operational interest.
