Oxford Sherpa minibus

All the ones in monk bar model shop were without number plates. Is this a faulty batch (I know they were delayed for unknown reasons just before release)? Or is it a new approach by Oxford diecast and if so it’s a retrograde step. Anyone else purchased one or seen one up close? I still bought one!

I have three of them:

Royal Air Force Green: Number Plates in place (88 KG 61) as mentioned above

British Rail Yellow: Number Plates in place (GBT 945W)

Just taken delivery (ordered direct from Oxford Diecast) of the plain white version: No Number Plates

Not that I’m too bothered as this one will be getting reliveried into a Royal Air Force Police Sherpa so would need a military registration applying anyway.

Looking at all the Sherpas on the Oxford website, if the van is in a specific livery then it has a VRN but the plain white version is the only one without a VRN.

Ideal for customising by the purchaser or as Steadfast has suggested, for representing a brand new delivery on car flats.

The white one is clearly not based on any specific vehicle and actually has a combination of grille and bumper finish that never existed. It has a silver grille with a Leyland badge as used on the earliest examples, but black bumpers that should go with the later black Sherpa-badged grille. AROnline has a very good feature on the evolution of the Sherpa with an illustration of the different front end treatments used over the years.

Here's what I did with my white one:

And this one is a full repaint (note the chrome bumpers identifying it as an early version):

Oxford’s plain white Sherpa now reliveried as mentioned above. Not based on any particular prototype.

I spoke to the shop that gets my oxford orders in for me and he said at the time that there was a delay on the minibus due to faults with the initial batch. I wonder if the mismatched grille and bumper and the lack of registration plates was the mistake and they just though they’d release anyway as they’d sunk money into it!?
