Hi Jonathan,

Yes, definitely, that's what I'm going to try to achieve, but I want to get the underlying stone colour right first.

From this photo, the wall looks quite dark in places, under it's lime coat, so I think I need to darken the whole thing down before the white top brushing:

I think it is a limestone wall though, rather than gritstone. Maybe darken the mortar rather than the stone?

Cheers,

Al.

I've applied an all-over dilute wash of Humbrol 91 Black Green  to the retaining wall, to try and darken it as discussed:

When this has thoroughly dried in the morning, I'll look at adding a dry-brushed coat of matt white for limestone dust.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Thanks Adrian,

Here's what the wall looks like now it's dry, and in daylight:

I think that will do for the base colouring, so later I'll have a go at weathering and adding limestone dust.

A bit more buildage:

The roof and front of the building have been given a blast of Matt Tan, as a basis for a concrete colour.

Lots of corrugated cladding to do.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Here at Cawdor, there has been much corrugation:

wCawdor-Quarry157.jpg.73f6ed89ee183114760c88be3c97f35f.jpg

and a little bit of paintage, too:

Some roofage to follow, and some windowness, then much more paintage.

Thanks for looking,

This evening has been concerned with windowness.

I started with 4 sections of 20thou x 80thou strip, and 4 sections of 20thou square strip:

The 20thou square was stuck in the middle of the 80thou strip, and then I started joining the sections together to form the window frame:

Then I cut a load of 10thou x 20thou microstrip, and stuck on the verticals:

and then the horizontals:

Then, I did it all again, only smaller...

wCawdor-Quarry170.jpg.7a17bb04f9e18a5e70f741fa208e4ecb.jpg

and here they are test fitted in the building:

wCawdor-Quarry172.jpg.7eef9bbac18adb2db008a1883680deeb.jpg

You may note some basic doorness has appeared as well...

You might also note some roofosity in the final pic, as well.

Neither windows or doors are fixed in place yet, as they will be painted separately.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

I liked the last post just for using the words windowness and roofosity :good:

I liked the use of wordage too but I think the clever/craftsmanship is well deserved...idged

Thanks guys,

I do like to mangle the Engly Languid on occasion for a bit of fun.

Chris, I know (I hope) that you were joking about feeling guilty, but really, everybody models in their own way, and I'm lucky enough to be good at carving up bits of styrene. But look at Andrew P, he does exactly what you do, despite years of us nagging him to scratchbuild something, but he turns out the most beautiful and believable layouts, at a rate that surpasses any other modeller on this forum. (I hate him :)  )

Warren Branch, and the loco shed and everything, are absolutely top notch modelling, and you should be proud of it.

Looking at your pictures wagons running along  the curved back siding may have some clearance problems with your structure?

Oh yee, maketh me to modest to comment, I cant do Urban / Buildings / Townie things yong Al, and it's the same with my Paintings, I cant do perspective in Buildings etc, but enjoy Landscapes / Rural etc.

I can't even cut a 90 degree corner without making it 92 and a bit degrees, haha.

Hi Gordon, as far as I can see from prototype photos, the siding doesn't actually enter the building, it stops short, and so does my interpretation of it, although the angle of the photo makes it look as though it goes further, so clearance shouldn't be an issue.

Cheers,
