Thanks Chris.

Here it is with a basic spray job:

You can see I've decided to place the hopper lower in the frame.

This will give me the opportunity to add all sorts of interesting catwalks and pipery to the top.

I asked my daughter what she thought "pipery" was, and she said it would be something with a lot of pipey stuff!

I think I might be just getting the gist of this new language.

Anyway keep up the great modelery stuff!

"out of the mouths of babes..."

Of course what I should have said is "pipage", but then you would pronounce it pip and age, so that wouldn't work.

It must be an irregular noun. It's certainly pretty unofficial... :)

Just a thought (yes I know I’ve been warned about thinking) depending on the size of your pipery you could maybe cut one of these down for the valverage?

Modelu standpipe

Maybe cutting out the valvery leaving the flangies?

If you got a set in 4mm and 7mm you’d have the option of various size pipage

As I always do, I defer to your greater knowledge - as to modelling and the English language.

Thanks Mike,

I'll look at getting one of those too. Definitely need lots of that sort of thing.

I had a go last night at a valve for the bottom of the hopper.

I took some 6.2mm styrene tube, and drilled a 5mm hole in it, and stuck a piece of 4.8mm tube into it, then a piece of 3.2mm inside that, and some 2mm rod inside that. Then I added some microstrip wrapped round for a bit of detail.

Here's the result:

I've got the bit between my teeth now, and so this afternoon I started another building.

A slight departure from all the wriggly tin though, this one is going to be a more traditionally built limestone building, and in my mind is the old site office from before all this new-fangled corrugated rubbish was built...

As always, I started by cutting out a kit of parts from styrene sheet. So here's the basic shell, from 60thou styrene:

wCawdor-Quarry240.jpg.39e01ce3cfdd14f0657eeb43658b3df7.jpg

The window aperture is specially cut to fit a spare sash window that I cut years ago on my Silhoutte cutter for the terrace cottages on Grindleford. The window is made up of three layers of 10thou styrene, comprising the frame, top sash and bottom sash, and looks like this:

wCawdor-Quarry241.jpg.29098fa508b981f4deabd5bfb34695e9.jpg

it needs cleaning up a bit, but you get the idea.

After cutting out the shell, I then repeated the exercise, cutting out the same shapes in Slaters' 4mm Random Stone:

wCawdor-Quarry242.jpg.5df682fab11242eda84e34b2cf8b2ef6.jpg

Then, I stuck the shell together, using a couple of triangular fillets in the corners to keep it square:

wCawdor-Quarry243.jpg.d3c75e9e9220c5520fbe47955bf4f79a.jpg

wCawdor-Quarry245.jpg.f62ab3eb618b5ccc950096dbf1c1afe2.jpg

I could just stick the random stone sheet on top and call it job done, but that would be cheating.

Around here, most limestone built buildings have Millstone Grit quoins to reinforce the corners, which gives a very distinctive look. To get this effect, I did this:

Here's a sheet of Slaters' 4mm York Paving.

wCawdor-Quarry246.jpg.8cd7a2e0abbea528096fbd8ae975231e.jpg

But today, we're not going to use it for floors, we are going to use it for quoins.

wCawdor-Quarry248.jpg.744ba44abd5acd58a4c3b9556c5561a4.jpg

Lots and lots of small scalpel cuts later, we have this:

wCawdor-Quarry249.jpg.d324e88881aab7995789fd8192878266.jpg

and after lots and lots more scalpel cuts, we have this:

wCawdor-Quarry250.jpg.15dc7ed4d450b0630d8d66ff4cb9e321.jpg

Placed on the shell, they look like this:

wCawdor-Quarry251.jpg.bbf41e696de1a50c548f17f9d0fcb29a.jpg

wCawdor-Quarry252.jpg.433c37d8c5a7f4cd9341b1595e18e1bb.jpg

The quoins are not stuck down yet, as they will be painted separately before attaching.

That's as far as I've got tonight. I'm getting cramp in my fingers which is telling me to go and drink tea and give it a rest.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

As the kitchen table is being used for your modeling you can't very well say dinner time.

Mind you I am wondering where you sleep as I suspect there is another layout being built somewhere else in your house.

I am slightly concerned about the orientation of the random stoneworkness, there appears to be a considerable amount of vertical joiniums betwixt the stones, more so than if the stonework is rotated 90°.

Dammit, I knew someone would notice.

Yes, I had to cut the sections out with that orientation to get them all out of the part-sheet I had left of Random Stone.
