RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 This evening I've carried on with the site office building, cutting out all the crenellations round the quoins: Then it was time to start the painting, so the random stone was given a coat of Matt White: The quoins were given a coat of Matt Sand: followed by washes of dilute Black Green: When everything was dry, some assemblage occured: Let's go somewhere with better light: Tomorrow will be roofage and tileage Thanks for looking, Al. 10 1

RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 13, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2019 I'm not going to do anymore to this building, I've decided it doesn't fit into the general scenic setting, so there's no point wasting any more time on it. RMweb Premium Jason T Posted November 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 13, 2019 You wouldn’t believe how many spare buildings I have that didn’t quite fit into Bacup. A full, huge mill for starters......

RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 15, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 15, 2019 I've been having a steady go at the basic landscaping this week. I've run out of filler now, which, considering I started with a brand new 2Kg tub, means there's 2Kg of extra weight in the board now!! And I still need some more... I may need a block-and-tackle to shift this layout... Poor old kitchen table Some basic painting of the quarry faces has been applied - just blasts of rattle-can to take the edge off - detail painting probably will start tomorrow. The ground cover has had real limestone dust applied over wet grey paint, and I think looks quite effective. See what you think: Thanks for looking, Al. 11
Andrew P
More than just very effective Al, excellent in fact mate, very clever indeed. 2

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2019 My weapon of choice, far lighter and more easily workable, and less prone to cracking when drying and the layout is being moved. Mike. 1
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 16, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2019 That looks very similar to what I've used, except mine was from Wickes. Al.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted November 19, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 19, 2019 A slight touch of weatherage this evening. I've tried to blend the loader building colours to more nearly match the front buildings, by the use of some weathering powders, followed by a blast of matt varnish to seal it all. I think they look good now. Al. 11
RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted November 20, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 20, 2019 Finally tonight, I've added some subtle white weathering powder to the front building, to try and get the dusty look a bit better: You may notice some catwalkery has appeared, as well. Here's some unforgiving close-ups: Thanks for looking, Al. 14

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 20, 2019 Fantastic! if it wasn't for the paintbrush you'd be forgiven for thinking its the actual building and not a model Unless that is a 14 metre orange paint brush on the floor? RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted November 20, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 20, 2019 Time for some heavy construction this evening, so on with the welding mask... A big frame: with reinforced corners: And why? To support this... More welding, but smaller scale. I started a lattice frame: Still got the other half to do. And finally, a bit of cooking. I wanted some pipe bends, so I took some 4mm round rod, and dunked it in boiling water, and bent it. However, it tends to want to spring back, so I screwed the bends to a bit of wood: and stuck them in the oven at 150C (Gas mark 2) for ten minutes. Boiling water is enough to soften the styrene so it will bend without snapping, but because styrene is a thermoplastic, if you take it above a certain temperature it will stay in whatever shape you want after it's cooled, so after a bit of cooking, I ended up with these: These are slightly over 90 degrees, as they will tend to relax a bit, and I'd rather have them slightly under tension to straighten them anyway. You'll see what I'm going to do with these tomorrow. Thanks for looking, Al. 11 2
