Why? If the organisers are happy with the finances of the show, then it seems a bit silly to change it. It is a bit like asking Lotus to build cars like Bugatti thereby losing their present market.

There are plenty of other shows around this time of year which cater better for finescale modellers & kit-builders. Scaleforum was a couple of weeks ago & Warley is just over a month away. GETS is a bit different to these.

This one seems to be aimed more towards the RTR market than the scratchbuilder.

I don't think the aisles were particularly narrow either. I was there all weekend & at no time was I held up when walking around.

Perhaps it depends on what the organisers are aiming for. If it's more towards the RTR market then Shelvington & Rydes Hill doesn't fit the bill for a start.

I didn't comment on the aisles but I agree that they did not seem particularly narrow. I was there most of Saturday and had no real trouble moving around. I think the venue works well overall.

I agree. I like the layout a lot & always say hello to Matt & Lee.

I was surprised to see it there for the reason you mentioned.

You gave the impression you just turn up and present your ticket and go straight in!

I always have an advance ticket but still face a long queue to get in when I arrive around 8:45-9:00:(

The same system was in place to get into the exhibition at the Swindon Steam Museum. 20mins to get into that exhibition

One bad point - there were some tools on sale here and there, with a particularly fine array of paint brushes on one stand, but once again there was no-one like Squires or Eileens to provide the wherewithal.  If this show has any pretensions to being up among the leaders this is an omission that needs to be rectified, and soon.

Chris

This was brought up here last year.

I made the posting that Squires don`t appear to attend any magazine organised shows. There was a reply stating that it could be due to costs, but nothing could be more expensive than their attendance at Warley. If due to a clash of dates is the reason that they couldn’t appear here, but to my knowledge they have never appeared at any of the 3 BRM Shows since their inception.

Or it could be as simple as they have never been asked to attend.

Back home  after a super day out at the Great Electric Train Show at Stadium MK. I and a group of friends all from Market Harborough Model Railway Group in Leicestershire have attended this show on several occasions in recent years, and I’d say overall, this was the best yet. This time we were “6 up” as a group of mere punters, and that only usually happens for us on trips to Warley or Telford!

Among a very high quality selection of layouts I think we each found things to really enjoy, personal highlights for me among the OO the “Thumpers” of Shelvington and Rydes Hill with that fantastic bridge, the L&YR ‘end to end’  Wainthrop Bridge with its lovely low intensity, low speed operation and the superb Fenny Stratford. The last is a great true to life layout but  also sticks in my brain thanks to a most helpful conversation we enjoyed with one of its operators, on the back of which we shall be altering our own layout plans.

Some great O gauge at GETS as well. Among the O Gauge the atmosphere of Old Elms Park caught my eye and the superbly presented Grindley Brook held it for a long time. Long enough, fortunately, to enjoy the spectacle of a Duchess hauled express cruising past along those wide curves, absolutely top stuff.

Trade support seemed very good, though as others have noted the absence of a “tools” and “materials” type trader was a drawback, but hey, if all the shows were the same, I’d go to fewer of them. Hope all those organising and operating had a good time and thanks for all your efforts.

& appropriately, the real Fenny Stratford is the closest station to this show.

I also visited the GETS on the Saturday and yes it was exceptionally busy till about 14:00

Great selection of layouts and a nice selection of trade with the exception of a specialised supplier of modelling tools etc.

With any exhibition in a new venue it takes time to iron out the issues, but like Warley this is a exhibition not to miss.

I speak from experience being part of the exhibition team at Stafford for over 25 years and it does take time.

Actually the Stafford is larger than GETS with more quality layouts and traders to suit the RTR and the modeller, we also have ample free car parking, hot & cold food and a complimentary preserved bus service from Stafford rail station on both days

Unfortunately we don’t have a bar or cash machines

So if you missed out on a visit to GETS and unable to visit Warley mark the first weekend in February 2020 in your diary

Full details of layouts, traders and demonstrations are on our website www.staffordrailwaycircle.org.uk

Well done to all the Hornby Magazine team on a great exhibition.

Went today and thoroughly enjoyed myself well laid out plenty of room and very good layouts trade back up complimentary only complaint chaotic catering went to burger van know this is nothing to do with organisers.

I went on Sunday and echo the positive comments about the layouts; Bournemouth West really is magnificent. I expected normal show catering--where was the food? All I could see was crisps.

Food was there but a chaotic system in obtaining it, did not seem to be queues just a mob at the counter we gave up and went out to the burger  van good burger and coffee.Perhaps the catering company had staff problems or just don't have a system that works.

I was part of the Old Elm Park/Polcombe Depot team over the weekend and rather enjoyed the show. Lots of interest in both layouts and a decent selection of others' work to admire on our occasional breaks.

I wasn't particularly intending to buy anything, but a Oxford Rail departmental Warwell for a tenner proved too much to resist!

Good to catch up with various friends and acquaintances over the weekend too.

I was though, rather surprised and disappointed at the total lack of non-UK outline layouts - no US, no Continental layouts or trade (other than a handful of random items on some of the s/h traders tables). Some of us do cast our modeling gaze beyond these shores, y'know...

They have been known to have stands at at least 3 (two day) exhibitions in a single weekend!
