RMweb Gold Popular Post BMacdermott Posted September 29, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 29, 2019 (edited) Advance Notice – The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 From The 00 Poll Team We are pleased to say that The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 will be hosted here on RMweb from early on Monday 14 October until midnight on Saturday 2 November. We hope to publish the results within a few days of closing. Andy York – who constructs ‘the computerised aspects’ for us – has no ‘influence’ on the content and kindly acts as a volunteer in his own time. The 00 Poll Team itself is totally independent and unpaid. A lot has happened since we published the 2018 results! The breakdown of 00 items announced so far, and sometimes even delivered, is as below. Although ‘totally new’ announcements have been fewer this past year – there have been a number of ‘re-makes’ – the predominance is still biased towards the high end. · 3 From the Top 50 · 6 From the High Polling segment · 6 From the Middle Polling segment (two were above the overall half-way mark) · 3 From the Low Polling segment (figure amended 4.10.19) Three additional items were announced that we didn’t have listed: · MMA/JNA Wagons (RevolutioN) · NER Autocar (Rails) – although that was to be listed this year · Nuclear Flask Wagon (KR Models) – although that was to be listed this year What’s new for 2019? We have much that’s new! We have deleted the Underground and Industrial categories to concentrate on ‘core content’ of BR, its predecessors and successors. That, together with the deletion of items announced since 2018, means that we list more than 100 new items for you this year. Additionally – in response to requests – we have moved the ‘cut-off date’ to 1 January 2005 but please bear in mind that many items now listed will be ‘perfectly adequate’ in current model form and you should only vote if you would realistically wish to buy ‘an improved model’. In the all-new Category 21, you will have the chance to nominate one loco, one item of coaching stock and one item of freight stock which has been made since 1 January 2005 and which you would realistically buy if re-made to higher standards of fidelity etc. What is the running order of The Poll? And what is new in each of the 21 categories? The running order is still basically the same but with some new or revised titles. We think you’ll like what we have for you! 1. Locos: GWR & Constituents The following are new entries this year (because they now fall within our 1 January 2005 cut-off): · GWR 56xx 0-6-2T (5600-5699, 6600-6699) · GWR 45xx/4575 2-6-2T (4500-4574, 4575-5574) 2. (The ‘fixed tank’ 6-wheel Milk Tanks were already balanced across all four railways.) Your Suggestions for Re-makes of Post-2005 00 Models As noted, we have moved the cut-off date to 1 January 2005. If we listed every 00 item that has been made between then and now, The Poll content would be over-whelming and cause many to not vote. However, some voters have expressed a wish to vote for a re-make to greater standards, variation of fidelity and DCC-compatibility etc of some 00 items that have been made in recent years. This category – which is ‘experimental’ for this year – has three boxes in which you may only enter one clearly-described 00 item in each box – maximum six words each. They must be those which you would realistically wish to buy. The Top 3 of each type will be reported in the Results. They will then be listed in the 2020 Poll – subject to them polling more votes than the overall-lowest voted item of 2019. If you don’t want to suggest any re-makes, simply leave the boxes blank. Can we still add any items for 2019? It’s too late for 2019 but you are welcome to suggest items for 2020 – after we ‘go live’ please – either on RMweb or directly to The 00 Poll Team at the email address below. To be considered, your individual suggestions must follow the style of The Guide: · A clear heading · About 200 words of explanatory text · One or two links We’re sorry if this sounds a tad over-bearing but The Poll is running very close to ‘maximum permitted load’. The 2018 new entries panned out as: · 0 Top 50 · 16 High Polling · 23 Middle Polling · 50 Low Polling (with 25 in the overall bottom 50) Record turnout? We have already had very positive responses to our Press Release and mini-posters from clubs and societies as far away as New Zealand, Canada and the USA. If you haven’t voted before, we hope these changes will convince you to take part. Perhaps you could forward these details – and the accompanying mini-posters – to any friends who may wish to know? Thanks! The 00 Poll Team Neil Burgess, Robert Carroll, Chris Knowles-Thomas, John Lewis, Jeff Lynn, Brian Macdermott, Nick Stanbury, Ian Taylor and Glen Woods. We are totally independent and unpaid. RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted October 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 Hello everyone Congratulations to Model Rail, Kernow Model Centre and Heljan on the announcement of PWM 651-4. The locos have been Low Polling over the years - but that should not be taken as a 'lack of popularity'; we list just over 800 items of what we feel could potentially exceed 30,000! So, they are still actually very high in the overall pecking order of the results. Although we cannot add items to the 2019 Poll, we can delete - so these have been deleted. RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted October 5, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) Hello everyone May I say a big thank you to all those who have so far downloaded the Poll posters in the OP? Your 00 Poll Team has worked really hard to list all the items that you have requested over the years. We do not have any advertising budget nor 'financial support' from anyone or any company. The only way we can 'get out there' is with your valued help. If I can 'nudge you into action' to print out the posters and take copies to your local club and model shop, you will be helping us to reach the widest possible audience - across the world - to get the broadest range of voters. Their votes might well help your votes! The number of voters has risen slowly but steadily over the years - a record turnout of over 3000 can only be achieved with your help. The more voters we have, the better differentiation between the items. And don't forget, you can now suggest re-makes of items made since 2005 too. Thanks for listening! phil gollin
. IF I may be cynical for the moment, I would suggest that the increasing numbers of voters may be down to the same people having a number of different electronic devices (as well as work and library computers) with which to vote. I hope there are measures in place to stop such things. .

Hello Phil I can say quite categorically that the (slow) increase in voters is entirely down to sheer hard graft by all those involved in running this Poll. phil gollin
. I'll be interested to see what the result of Hattons announcing their "Genesis" generic 4- and 6-wheeled coaches will be. .
RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted October 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 10, 2019 Hello Phil Below is a repeat of what I have just posted to the Hattons Genesis thread. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team) ________________________________________________ As noted earlier in a reply to Nearholmer – which is about 1.37 million postings back in this thread now () – the 00 Wishlist Poll Team was looking into the content of the Hattons announcement and has now had a chance to evaluate it. Within the 00 Poll, we list a number of 4- & 6-wheel carriage types but – having looked at the Hattons images – we aren’t able to delete any of them for 2020 (and it would have been too late for 2019 anyway as we ‘go live’ on Monday 14 October. See RMweb banner headline at top of the page). As a number of contributors have said, these are generic models showing what might be called ‘traditional British panelling’. We have looked at them from the perspective of ‘if it looks like a duck, it probably is a duck’ but we can’t realistically delete any item because of the numerous differences compared with our listings. That is not designed to take any glory away from Hattons. We congratulate them on what is looking to be a very good idea and we wish them every success with the project…which is both bold and adventurous to say the least. A number of contributors have raised the topic of a Full Brake and Hattons are to be commended for having listened attentively. We know of some LMS non-passenger-carrying vehicles (NPCCS) which had a 10ft 6in + 10ft 6in wheelbase, so would concur that it would be welcomed for Hattons to either consider a specific vehicle or perhaps offer the underframe as a separate item. At least four of the 9-man 00 Poll Team will be buying some of the items from the wide range. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)

Don't forget that we 'go live' around 0900 Monday 14 October. In the meantime, I thought you might like to see the clean, clear and fresh look that Andy York has kindly been able to bring to the voting pages with some very hard work on his part. Thanks Andy!
