What make are your industrial railings, Joe? I have been looking for a suitably tall, double, industrial gate, possibly with spike topped rails. Bo-Bo
Looks good. These 3D printers are definitely they way forward in the modelling world.
1722
All coming together wonderfully. Ground covering is particularly nice.

Quite happy with them to be honest, highly recommended! Joe
RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted October 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 23, 2019 Hi your cakebox challenge is looking excellent, the modelling is spot on. I do like your welder.
joejab95
I’ve added some ground cover around the arc welding scene and it’s now all glued into place. Quite happy with it.
joejab95
I’ve added a temporary back scene, think it suits the scene well. One thing I cannot decide on is whether to have a single cabin or a double stacked! Possibly a less is more situation maybe? Anyway, I’d definitely like to hear thoughts on this one! Single Stacked Double stacked
Marly51
Hi Joe, I like the double cabin! Think it balances well with the Sentinel and gives that extra break between low relief and backscene. Marlyn
Dickon
Hi Joe I also like the way the double stacked cabins balance the scene but am worried abut the lack of access to the door of the upper cabin......

Yes, I think health and safety man would have a fit over that! Anyway, thanks for the responses everyone, I quite agree that the cabins balance the scene well alongside the sentinel. I'm considering using the SMS cabins instead of my 3D prints as my research seems to indicate not many double stacked offices have the double doors like mine

Dufus
Hi Joe, Looking really good, just to be awkward I prefer the single cabin, as you say in this case less is more. A double stack would draw the eye away from the welder who is a key feature of this layout. Either way it is looking good.
joejab95
So I’ve decided to park the cabin issue for the moment. Many thanks for those of you who got in touch, you’ve given me plenty of food for thought! In the meantime, a couple of additions! I found a Tube Lines Transit Connect that is actually coloured just like a Balfour Beatty Van, I’ve sourced some decals and got the T-cut at the ready! The second addition was a complete surprise! Found this plasser unit for £20 on eBay! It will also be receiving similar Balfour Beatty treatment
Bo-Bo
Great progress on your cakebox layout, I think you have captured the back scene really well and everything blends in. Nice purchase at £20 for the Plasser unit.
joejab95
Still need some touching up, but quite happy with the results! The makings of a small fleet! 7

joejab95
Apologies for lack of content over the last few weeks, time seems to have crept up quickly! anyway, here’s some snaps of what I’ve been up to. I’ve decided to go with a single cabin but raise it on some concrete slabs.mi feel this balances well with the Sentinel. I’ve also started on my stack of sleepers and added some much needed signage. I’ve also stuck my fence in and added some weeds in behind. The on-site labourer clearly needs to get the strimmer out as it’s starting to creep through the fence! Just a pile of rails to go now!
joejab95
Must admit that it’s very satisfying to seeing it in a cake box for the very first time! What are the rules on locos for the final submission? I have the Sentinel and Plasser which were both projects which resulted from this build. Would love to have a photo of each in the final submission, but will otherwise just stick with the Sentinel.

steve1
Have you thought of showing this to the real firm? They might be interested in it for publicity. steve
joejab95
My boss knows of my little project, in fact it was his 3D printer that printed the cabin for me! I'll certainly take it into work for sure to see what they all think! In the meantime, I got the fancy camera out and have had some fun taking some shots of the final piece. Finding it tricky to decide what to use in the final submission! I've taken quite a few and have realised I will need to do a couple of posts due to the 10mb limit on posts!
