Making DMS for DMUs by cut and shunt

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Apologies if this topic has been done to death in times past but I cant find any appropriate links!

I am looking to modernize a couple of 00 gauge Lime Class 117s by converting the unpowered DMBS to a DMS.

I seem to recollect that someone used to do a kit for this?

Has anyone experience of doing this?

Even better, is there any brave soul out there who would be willing to do this work for me?

Any information gratefully received.

Many thanks

Paul

If you cut along the cantrail above the brake end, and down along one of the door seams, then you will be able to slot in the appropriate panel of passenger compartments from a donor vehicle.  I used the center car for this when I did one way back.

Best wishes,

Chris.

My own experience is that it's easier to hide the joins using all Lima parts.

Mainly, I think, because you are attaching like-to-like materials, but also because what little surface texture there is matches and will therefore take paint more evenly.

I think the Silver Fox parts are available, try "sk modeller" on ebay, or he has a website.

You need to be careful of the moulded rivets just below the cantrail on the Lima model, to match up decide if you are cutting below them or if you'll bring a panel in on which they are included.

John.
