Electrification OHLE flat top mkI's from Triang

Despite the fact that I prefer my EMU's to pick up off 3rd and 4th rail, I've always had a bit of an urge to do some OHLE 'flat-tops' by converting old mk1's, I had an odd hour spare a few weeks ago, so I drew a quick etch for the window protection grills and have had it etched in 0.1mm stainless steel. There has been a bit of an error with the main sheet, which the etcher is having another go at, but it does have a few usable grills that I included 'loose' to bring the sheet up to A4.

Here they are on the sheet, with a 50p piece behind to give an idea of how see-through they are.

and laid on top of a chopped about Triang mk1 side.

The 'production' etches are laid out with enough windows with two versions to either do a 4 compartment BSK or 8 compartment TSO (although I'm probably going to bodge some CK's instead).

These grills were also used on other departmental coaches, notably the staff vans attached to ballast cleaners.

The replacement etch arrived whilst I was away for a few days, so today is the first chance to look at them - I'm very pleased, they will be available as a BSK set for £7.50 or a TSO for £10 plus 70p p&p - please send me a PM for details

I've also fitted some of my hand-cutout grills to a coach side and given it a blow over in Halfords grey primer.

  • 1 month later...

OHLE coaches have had a coat of varnish this weekend.

I suspect having no real need for them they will go on the secondhand stand at the CMRA show in the new year... they really should have a pantograph on at least one of the roofs, but its more work than I'm prepared to do.
