hconn
I'm trying to model a small industrial heritage railway close to me and they have recently acquired a new locomotive. It's a Powleslanda & Mason 0-4-0ST (later GWR 0-4-0ST). I'm trying to find a model close to it so I could have one on my layout as I currently only have one of their locomotives whilst I wait for the rest of Hornby's Rustons to be released. However as it is a rather obscure locomotive I'm struggling to find much close to it in design. I have found a couple of models by CSP Models which are of the same GWR variant but by a different builder so are different in design. Does anyone have any suggestions to how I could possibly modify those models or anywhere that might do a model closer to what I am looking for? I have linked the two models and put a picture of the locomotive I'm aiming to model below. http://cspmodels.com/abante/index.php?rt=product/product&path=65&product_id=117 http://cspmodels.com/abante/index.php?rt=product/product&path=65&product_id=

RMweb Premium Andy Kirkham Posted October 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 17, 2019 The closest ready-to-run option would be the Hornby Peckett W4 https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/shop/locomotives/locomotives-by-class/peckett-w4-0-4-0st.html Your loco was built not by Peckett but by Brush, but it's the same general type. I do already have a W4 (which the railway had a slight variant of), but I was hoping to find something even closer
RosiesBoss
G'day, hconn, I agree with Andy: the prototype loco is indeed by Brush. Its wheelbase is 5'9", the same as portrayed by the Dapol/Hornby L&Y 0-4-0ST. Its wheels are 3'7" dia. Those of the L&Y loco were 3'0". Unfortunately, the saddle tank is set very high compared with many others of its ilk. The Hornby Peckett was indeed a contemporary of your chosen loco. If you wanted to kitbash a Dapol/Hornby into a different Peckett, you could use a (free) 3D design from here: https://www.thingiverse.com/2A_Rail/designs and adapt it to the L&Y chassis. I've been so doing, while learning how to use a new 3D printer. Without any cleaning up or detailing of the body, it looks like this: There's quite a bit of work ahead to make it presentable, but isn't that what modelling is all about? I hope these comments help widen your choice of prototypes. Regards, Rob

My current plan was to try and bash one of the CSP model with maybe a Hornby Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 some of the missing features on the CSP seemeed to appear on that model. But I'll certainly take 3D printing into account.
RexAshton
I'm currently building an Avonside 0-4-0ST 'Trojan' in 7mm. If it's any help I can scan the instructions for you as they include drawings.

DCB
That Dapol / Hornby chassis is pretty ugly in the way the motor sits in the cab. There were conversions for the Airfix / Dapol kit which hid an X04 motor in the boiler which have to be a better bet for a scale model. Mine has a long type computer motor in the boiler and a K's MR 0-4-0 chassis (Ugh!)
