SE4 Box
Have been given a Loksound sound chip with a Class 44 sound. I have fitted and programmed using a Hornby speaker. However, this is very distorted. I think it is a 4 ohm speaker I think this must be wrong? I cannot/do not know what version this chip is. Can anyone advise which speaker to use with this please. Speaker I have attached is 8 Ohm;s 1 Watt Thank You Mike Edited October 18, 2019 by SE4 Box Additional Information
scoomby
Do you know what loksound version you are using? V3/V3.5 requires 100ohm speaker
SE4 Box
Newbie to the hobby so not sure. Person who gave it to me did not know either? Attached is photo of chip and speaker I have used if this helps? Thank You
RobjUK
It's a Loksound V3.5 - see the photo at the bottom of the page here: http://www.esu.eu/en/products/former-products/loksound-v35/ You need a 100 ohm speaker for that one.
RAF96
Quote from the ESU v3.5 speaker page... Quote You must never use the new 4 Ohms speakers with the previous LokSound V3.5decoder. The decoder could be destroyed! When the decoder is replaced, the speaker must! be changed as well. An 8-ohm speaker would invoke much the same risk.
Paul80
Unfortunately by trying it with the 8ohm speaker it probably has already been damaged so don't expect to much once the correct 100ohm speaker has been found. If it does work buy a lottery ticket

Paul80
That's was lucky, did you buy your lottery ticket, I know some Zimo decoders die if you use a 4ohm instead of the correct 8ohm, so not killing one designed for 100ohm by using a 8 ohm is either very lucky or testament to how well built ESU decoders are. Not a Zimo expert but I believe you need to use a 8 Ohm on Zimo micro decoders, and the std decoders will take both. Given in good faith as they say. Wiggy. Paul80
Yep that was why I said some
S&DWatty
Another "saved by RM Web" moment here. Was retrofitting a Lok v3 to a Bachmann class 25 and initially soldered an 8 Ohm to the decoder. After reading this thread Ive replaced it with a correct 100 Ohm one and all is good!
