Loksound speaker

Have been given a Loksound sound chip with a Class 44 sound. I have fitted and programmed using a Hornby speaker. However, this is very distorted. I think it is a 4 ohm speaker I think this must be wrong? I cannot/do not know what version this chip is.

Can anyone advise which speaker to use with this please.

Speaker I have attached is 8 Ohm;s 1 Watt

Thank You

Mike

Quote from the ESU v3.5 speaker page...

You must never use the new 4 Ohms speakers with the previous LokSound V3.5decoder. The decoder could be destroyed! When the decoder is replaced, the speaker must! be changed as well.

An 8-ohm speaker would invoke much the same risk.

That's was lucky, did you buy your lottery ticket, I know some Zimo decoders die if you use a 4ohm instead of the correct 8ohm, so not killing one designed for 100ohm by using a 8 ohm is either very lucky or testament to how well built ESU decoders are.

Not a Zimo expert but I believe you need to use a 8 Ohm on Zimo micro decoders, and the std decoders will take both.

Given in good faith as they say.

Another "saved by RM Web" moment here.  Was retrofitting a Lok v3 to a Bachmann class 25 and initially soldered an 8 Ohm to the decoder.  After reading this thread Ive replaced it with a correct 100 Ohm one and all is good!
