A colleague was SM at the time, in his first job, and not having many staff gave each a Christmas present to thank them for their help during the year - nice, eh? Sadly, the signalman on late turn was given a half-bottle of whisky, and was so grateful he drank it on the spot, rendering the evening working unviable. The band played quite loudly about that one!
