Nigel, Are these your own drawing and prints or do you get them printed elsewhere?

Garry, the ross-pop safety valve was my one and only 3D printed item drawn by me (so far), using Fusion 360 and printed by Shapeways. The dome and chimney were done some time ago by Coast Line Models, reduced for me from 4mm ones, and printed by Shapeways.

I need to draw the chimney and dome for the Rhymney Class M I'm building, which means I need to crack doing stuff with a flare around the bottom. I've made a start but really need a concentrated effort, hopefully over the winter evenings, to crack Fusion 360.

5 nice little 4 wheelers arrived today to go behind the Single, only ordered on Sunday evening from Shapeways. In reality a few more would be appropriate but doubt that will happen. These are really nice and I now need to work out how to do a good Teak paint job. One is open for a motor bogie which was just in case I could not fit one in the tender so now I will be able to fit an interior.

Interesting one. The body looks like nickel silver. Is it? Didn't realise F&S kits used n/s.

Nigel

Correct Nigel, it is nickel silver. It has gone together far better than the Worsley ones did and no distortion when soldering up.

The only issue is the firebox needs to be tapered out a little, but, that is not the kits fault it is only due to me fitting a Tri-ang chassis. Overall the kit quality is good.

Managed to obtain a Blue A1A although in a rough condition with one end completely split but managed to clean her up and mixed a little paint to touch up the centre lining. Glued a strengthener across the front and got most of the broken plastic down and she will do as it is now.

In an envelope with other items was nearly a full set of new Britannia valve gear, the most interesting part though was the envelope with Great Western on and dated 1933. No idea what it is referring to though.

Did it perhaps once contain a photo of ex-Cornwall mineral locos at Swindon ? :unknw_mini:

According to Wikipedia, 1397 was withdrawn 1933, 1398 (ex 1400) was withdrawn1936, so could have been.

Managed a little work on the railcar. Just needs the roof painting and number transfers.

I tried to fit the DMU chassis I was using for the brass one but cutting and grinding the plastic frame did not work so will have to make a new one. Therefore, not decided on whether to use the original Tri-ang DMU power and trailing bogies from the brass one or a Halling.

The cream stripe should be one continuos line but due to the angled ends a transfer would not lay flat so will touch up the gaps with paint.

This Atlantic I bought a few years ago and never worked with the motor jumping out of mesh and the coupling rods too fine for use.  I decided to fit a Mashima in one of my gearboxes and look at new rods. As it happens the wheelbase was identical to a Tri-ang Brit/M-N so I cut a couple down, also, I could use a Tri-ang connecting rod to the crosshead and as you can see she runs well now although I need to find the bogie.

I have now stripped her ready for a repaint and the construction is very good, even the tender frames are 1/16" brass.

A quick snap of the freelance single. I was working towards a photo to enter in the club's annual photo comp, but the meeting is now a Covid-19 victim so I have a bit more time. The backscene is from this month's Modeller.

Didn't know we had an annual photo competition :(

Nice one. Is the chassis rigid or have you found a means of ensuring the drivers stay in contact with the track?

The latest bodyshell from Lincoln-locos is for the Duke of Gloucester and is designed to fit a Tri-ang Brit/M-N chassis.  Here it is on a full Brit chassis but I do have one somewhere without the ancillary parts which will be more suitable. There will be a tender shortly to go with it.

It's the local club, not the 3mm Society.

The loco has tender drive, a modified Helliwell motor bogie. I made my own gear plate to let the motor sit lower.

On the loco itself the front axle is rigid but the rear two axles are in a subframe that is pivoted at the back so the drivers can rise up and down. It is lightly sprung to make it bear some weight. The rear axle is also balanced on another axle which is at right angles so that it rather than the drivers reacts to lateral unevenness in the track

Hi folks- I'm normally very much of the 7mm persuasion but have noticed that items from a range of approximately 3mm / 1:100 or thereabouts range are sometimes to be found in charity shops and I've often wondered if they have any potential. I've a relative who's a TT modeller so have an excuse to dabble in a different scale and thought I'd have a go. The subject is "La France"- so not only a change of scale but a dabbling in the world of all things Great Western - about which I know very little.

I replied to a post on this very subject a while back but as it's all about a 3mm loco it's really in the wrong place - it's here, and the background to this model is towards the end:
