I finally cracked the issue of stock storage today. My original plan was to build a display board which doubled up as a storage box for the class 37 and 2 class 03s. While this has progressed,  it ended up being a large box which would need to live in the garage and I didn't fancy that and I have a Dapol 121 on order which would need accommodation so plan B was required. For my wagon storage I had previously bought some Kaze storage boxes from B&Q and so looked for something similar but bigger. The 29L box looked to be the right dimensions and as they are a reasonable price I decided to buy one:20210724_143333.jpg.37bdd4ec4efeea0ddfce7f52e8436722.jpg

I wanted some quite firm inserts as the locos are quite heavy so resorted to digging out some ply offcuts from behind my spare Land Rover engine. I used a 6mm plywood base and then made the divisions from some thinner 5mm ply braced with some off cuts I had to hand.

As 37029 no longer fits in the Heljan foam inserts this was sacrificed to create wedges to hold the locosin, strategically placed to avoid damage. The spares were kept for when the 121 arrives later this year. The lid keeps the foam in place.

With the weather in Wiltshire being wet today and a plan free afternoon I set the layout up to do some work and have a play.

The first thing I did was to fit to the point vee's the anti wheel drop devices I bought from Parliamentary Trains. Basically some wagons (mostly kit built ones) drop into the Peco point vee and so this laser cut piece fits in the vee to support the wheel flange as the wagons pass over.

Also I secured the 2 Bedford lorries and the Coles crane to the layout permanently to protect them in transit/storage and it saves setting up time.

Here are some pics of the session, 08950 getting a rare trip on the branch as no 03 was available

A view that I don't often take photos of, the scrap siding end on.

08950 coupling up to some Molasses tanks for Distillers further down the branch

A few more

08950 passes by as 2 of the scrap yard workers are deep in discussion, it could be work related or more likely whether City will win at the weekend

A rare visitor, Eastern Region class 37 37029 rumbles through Temple Meads, it is probably heading off to Avonmouth to work one of the tank trains back to its home region

A new lorry project which will go on either the extension or a future layout, I have decided to lengthen the chassis of the IXO Leyland FG to build a Sunblest bread van which were everywhere when I was young.

Nice to see an update Rob.

I've got a Base Toys 4mm Sunblest lorry in a box under the bed somewhere, got a soft spot for these as my grandad worked for them in South Wales. He was a mechanic by trade, not sure what he did at Sunblest, but I know he knew the reg numbers over 30 years later! I'll keep an eye on this one!

Thanks Jo, I was going to drop you a line about some transfers for it, just need to get the dimensions and artwork clear first.

Hi Rob. Those scrapyard workers could be Rovers fans discussing the latest defeat. Some things never change! Cracking photos as always.

Thanks Max, yes indeed although being South of the river they are likely to be reds. There is some BCFC graffiti on the brick work but then I forgot it would be obscured by the bridge on the lower level

Good to see some more photo's Rob, never tire of seeing some.  Peasevern and it's little brother Peafore are both among my go to layouts for inspiration. :)

Thanks, nice of you to say, there will be more on the way as we go into winter and I prep for next year's exhibition outings

Thanks to Dave, I was able to go to the West Wilts O gauge group bring and buy sale today and was able to give some of my locos a run on the test track. I took the 2 x 03s and the class 37 as they needed proper running in, something which is a bit difficult on the layout. They have 3 loops of standard O gauge and 1 x 3 rail loop.

Further testing tonight, I wanted to see how well the Heljan locos ran on the layout after last weekends running in session.  Generally they seemed much smoother which is a pleasant surprise.

03121 was tested first;

Not much to show on the layout but the Sunblest van is coming on, some more painting to do on the roof and lights etc but turning out OK so far. Strangely Sunblest sprayed the yellow to cover the corner cappings but left them bare on the rest of the body so I have faithfully recreated that even if it looks not right to my eyes.

Hoping the  Dapol 121 arrive soon as getting itchy fingers!

Nice to see the progress on the Sunblest truck Rob, I haven't forgotten your transfers. I've just finished a time consuming project (and the day job, home stuff and wedding planning) so starting to sketch things out for them.

You're right that the yellow treatment looks unusual, could it be the truck was built with white panels and silver framework, then Sunblest added the yellow themselves? A shame my grandad isn't still about, I'm sure he'd know!

No worries Jo, whenever you are ready, this is for a future layout/extension so no rush. I had exactly the same thoughts about how they sprayed the yellow although it must have been done before the body was put on the chassis as the stripe continues behind the cab.

A while ago I made a start on a small TMD display board which was also intended to originally double up as a carrying case for the class 37 and 2 class 03s. The latter part of the plan was abandoned as the display board took up a lot of space relative to the stock it would hold hence the plastic storage box approach shown earlier in the thread.

I found on the emgauge70s site a couple of head on shots of a class 47 and class 31 at Finsbury Park which using PowerPoint I cut down to represent 2 locos inside the shed doors. The problem was I trimmed the photos down too much which meant the locos in the picture towered over the stock outside:

not good....

I revisited the original image and edited out some text on the bottom so the locos appear further back in the shed and thus much smaller which works much better.

The tracks don't quite line up buy there will be a loco in front of them most of the time.

With that sorted, I decided to give the sand a wash of dilute Matt black and then had a think about the background to the side. I found this nice going away shot of a Deltic with some tracks in the foreground, a small wall will be put at the bottom to disguise the join.

Not much progress of late but one of my favourite shots of the layout appears in this month's BRM (the caption is not quite correct,it is definitely Peasevern Yard not Peafore Yard!),  nice surprise to see the layout in print. I am mostly working on building 1:43 Leyland National bus model at the moment but haven't clogged this thread up with photos.

I helped Dave with his layout Woodside at the Westbury show yesterday, my first exhibition in 2 years. It was only a small show but a friendly one and good to see Tim there with End of the Line, one of my favourite layouts on the circuit. Peasevern Yard is booked to attend there next November.

@Steadfast Jo at Steadfast models has also do another great job with the transfers for my Leyland FG bread van which is nearly finished bar the weathering and Varnish

I like the way you have worked Temple Meads into the backscene. With the grey plasticard representing the postal overbridge.

Thanks, the backscene has worked well on this one, the old parcel conveyor makes a good scenic break.
