Friffs
I wonder if anyone can help. I've planned a GWR layout but now looking to work out what signals I need. Is there anyone that could advise on where I should have the various different signals on the plan?
RMweb Gold flockandroll Posted November 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2019 This question is probably better asked in the "Skills and Knowledge / Permanent Way, Signalling and Infrastructure" part of the forum.
RMweb Gold ikcdab Posted November 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2019 I think you need to be more explicit with the track plan. Some of those crossings will need to be slips. I suppose both could be double slips, but I doubt that the main line one would be.
RMweb Gold flockandroll Posted November 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2019 No way am I an expert on the GWR, but a crossing is probably correct, however the connection to the mainline should be via a trailing not facing point. All three sidings entering the goods shed would be unusual. Usually at least one would be a "mileage" siding with access for local traders and/or road vehicles (including horse and cart) and probably including a coal merchant. To be able to be signalled realistically the plan probably needs some tweaking. Hope this helps.
RJS1977
If nothing else, there must be a slip connection from the sidings on to the head shunt.
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted November 9, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 9, 2019 And I'd be surprised if there wouldn't have been a trailing crossover between the main lines at the left hand end of the station as well.
RJS1977
Is the green line purely for goods workings, or is it used to terminate passenger trains as well? I notice that the headshunt has been laid out in such a way that the green line can be kept clear even when shunting is going on.
Grovenor
The green line is described as 'Branch Line' which implies passenger to me seeing as it has a platform.

And depending on the answer to that at least one trap point is requied, location not yet clear.
