RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted June 24, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2021 I wonder if there’s any home printer ink that is truly stable in a similar way to paint or tampo prints? It’s a shame all the hard work has to be redone but the plastic version is looking great! 2

There’s a couple on my linhay - I have my fingers crossed! Looking good though Rhys.

KeithMacdonald
If anyone needs an excuse for extra traffic to Porthleven, the extension from Helston to Penryn has just been opened. 2 1
37Oban
Hi, I spray all home-printed card and paper with artist fixative which contains a u v blocker, ultraviolet light being the main cause of inks fading and changing hue. I've had one card model sat in a south facing window for almost 18 months ( I really must move it!) and, touch wood, it's not faded. On most model layouts that don't get much direct sunlight the fixative is a good investment. It also has the advantage, if you get the correct one, of waterproofing the paper/card so you can repaint areas with acrylics or use a pva glue to attach additional details. Roja This was going to be my suggestion as well. I know that the chaps at Pendon have a very similar process for their hand painted card models and that's held up for donkeys now.

Duncan There isn't really a lot to tell. West of St Austell kaolinized granite was very sparse, with deposits occurring all over the place, but never very much in any one place. A lot of it was used for brickmaking rather than shipping as regular bulk clay, as there was much demand for fire bricks at the height of Cornish metal mining. The workings near St Just were one of the more significant deposits in the west, and occurred on the St Just moors. The deposit was ultimately split between two works; Lower Bostraze and Leswidden. The latter was closed during WW2 and never re-opened, while the former ended up in ECC hands, working in rather primitive fashion until the early 90s. "'Ow 'bout Bostraze?" became the common retort from Goonvean & Rostowrack employees whenever the ECLP lads jokingly referred to the company as "Goonvean & Prehistoric". 3 1

Popular Post Rhysb
Wow, almost a year! Lots going on in that time and with the pandemic causing a backlog on shows, I decided to put the expo layout on the back foot. However upcoming is a cameo appearance of part of the layout at DEMU. So its time to get the linhay board finished. Decided to get a bit of painting done on the main structure and finish off the plasticard elements. As with Treviscoe I wanted to get a clear difference on the roof for the older part with algae and moss and the newer part/replaced roof as a point of interest: Started to add some moss and vegetation, mixed with the odd replacement roof panel: Also I was going to rebuild elements of the platform but decided on trying some paint effects to get the concrete slab look: Finally an overview of the linhay on its board. The left door has had the completed concrete look on the platform below while the other two are in progress: Thanks for now Rhys Edited June 15, 2022 by Rhysb 14
Rhysb
So another afternoon and evening on the linhay. Managed to get all the breezeblock plasticard onto the main structure, finish off the metal framing and also the concrete platform, just detailing to come now: Tre Pol & Pen brings a couple of CDA's into the dry: Finally an overall view of the board: Now its time for moss, moss and a bit more moss! Popular Post Rhysb
Again with the big layout, apologies for the lack of updates. Been working on the join from the lower and upper boards. Now that is done the greenery etc can begin! The layout will be making its debut at the Taunton show in October so its full steam ahead on the layout. While it looks a long way off most of the buildings, trackwork, wiring etc is all done so its all about the greenery. Was testing the track before ballast hits it. While the layout is set in 1992/93 I can run modern day stuff as well so decided to take a few pics while testing: Thanks Rhys 24

Popular Post Rhysb
Bit more progress on the linhay. Namely the concrete hardstanding out the front. I based this on the below at Treviscoe which again the linhay is inspired from: Built up using layers of varnished card: Next onto a bit of painting then hopefully start to bed this area in. Thanks Rhys 16 6
