jonhall
that wasn't really angry, and wasn't actually on the line... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-50406198 A "startled pig" confronted engineers as they repaired a burst water main in London, before it was coaxed away with a bag of crisps. The pipe burst in Lamberts Road, Surbiton, damaging nearby railway equipment, which caused train delays. Jon
DaveSmith
Must be a very quiet news day if that's their best shot! I used to work for BBC TV News and a quiet news day was always a challenge!
Aire Head
"It is not known what flavour crisps were used to entice the pig away." Definitely a slow news day! 1
burgundy
Quite an achievement for the BBC to have a slow news day in the middle of a General Election, on a day when the PM has had the wax blown out of his ears by a lot of angry northerners, who are up to their knees in floodwater. Best wishes Eric

Best wishes Eric I don't follow the news in any form these days, but it might be that the event quoted doesn't suit the spin required. Or it might just be a bit of light relief in the middle of a gloomy autumn! At least the pig's OK! Roads round my way in West Oxfordshire (the part where the Thames and the Windrush meet) are turning into rivers by the hour.

Spin! From the impartial BBC? Surely not. Maybe the story was an easy way to get up to the required quota of porkies? Best wishes Eric 2
DaveSmith
Porky factor needs to be taken into account. I'm sure I didn't mean spin, must be the keyboard I'm using. I probably meant 'the time available for a comprehensive impartial report'! 1
w124bob
Sounds like hogwash to me, someones telling porkies.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted November 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 17, 2019 The problem was a burst water main which was flooding the line. The pig was obstructing Thames Water personnel who arrived to repair the problem but were confronted with Porkie who wasn't keen on moving. "Due to a burst water main near the railway" is available on the pre-recorded announcements to explain disruption. "Angry pig" is not. Hampton Court trains were unable to run for much of the day. Other trains through the area were largely unaffected. Guildford-via-Cobham trains, which usually run fast from Wimbledon to Surbiton, called additionally at Raynes Park, New Malden and Berrylands to cover. Passengers to and from Hampton Court were advised to use the bus to and from Kingston while those wishing to use Thames Ditton were advised to use buses from Surbiton to nearby locations. duncan
The crisp flavour is a very valid point - vegans would object if it was smokey bacon
