It would have said "MySQL server has gone away", it certainly hasn't had permission and I think it's an unnecessary journey so I shall be having words when it comes home.

Virus protection, Andy! Too many people on the site at one time, the server is following distancing protocols and going away from all these virus carrying humans. Apparently not even Norton and McAfee are able to combat Coronavirus. 1 2
Ken.W
Was very slow for me yesterday evening too, then unavailable just getting timed out errors. Very slow again and some timed out errors this afternoon as well.

jwealleans
I'm sure there's a plan in hand as performance has been poor and getting worse for some time. Some of it may be down to the general increase in Internet usage, but the degradation goes back before all this COVID unpleasantness kicked off.

Kaspersky seems to be doing quite well. My computer isn't affected by Covid-19 yet. Maybe when we get the next Windows update it might develop a bit of a cough and increased CPU temperature.
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25, 2020 Just tried a search and it's a non runner unless clicking the Search button involves an elderly librarian having to shuffle into a dark vault to search through dust covered files looking for the answer... Ken.W
Was there trouble with the site last night? I started to keep getting this error again; Not sure if was my connection or a local issue though, as also had trouble with some other sites, but not all. Yes, it was off for 11 hours necessitating a full reboot and drive scans. Not a night I wish to repeat.
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted July 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 3, 2020 In some ways fortunate that it was last night and not on the 4th and 5th July. That really would have been frustrating.

That's what kept me up most of the night as many of the images in the layout articles are hosted on this server so that they could open at higher resolution. I could have had an extra half day's work in working around that this morning but thankfully they started to become accessible around 06.00 so that's when I nodded off. 4
RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted July 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 3, 2020 (edited) Can we change this thread title from "Forum grindingly slow this afternoon" to "Problems with Forum web site" or somesuch? I don't think the current title is quite appropriate any more! Edited July 3, 2020 by Harlequin

Thanks for getting it up and running Andy. If I hadn't had a zoom meeting to keep me occupied for an hour, I don't think I'd have got through the morning with no RMWeb. 5

Or, "Sql has gone away, looking for it in Barnard Castle" Seriously though, thanks very much Andy, sounds like a hard and frustrating night 3 4
