THE Christmas Model Railway ShowManchester 7th & 8th December 2019!

Is by no means the biggest in the exhibition calendar, but we believe it is one of the best.  Its unique city centre location means that access from all over the country is easy and also makes us environmentally friendly, since about 75% of our visitors use public transport.  This quality and ease of access has been recognised by UKRailtours Ltd who this year are running a special charter train from London Kings Cross which features us as one of the must-see attractions that Manchester has to offer. So, if you live in London, Potters Bar, Stevenage or Peterborough and fancy a very special day out, go to https://www.ukrailtours.com/product/over-the-pennines-to-manchester/

But whether you are travelling a long distance or are more local, you can be sure of an exhibition which showcases a wide selection of top quality model railways, together with traders and other activities for all the family.  As always, the children will have the chance to enter our Free Treasure Hunt Quiz with a chance to win a complete train set to take away with them.  In response to feedback from our visitors, the traders will be offering a range of transport themed Christmas gifts as well as railway items and modelling supplies.
You don’t have to take my word for it.  Have a look at the article recently published on the Manchester Evening News website, which includes video footage of some of the layouts attending this year: https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/special-features/christmas-model-railway-show-manchester-17122763

Full details about all aspects of the exhibition are on our website where you can buy advance tickets.  It’s worth buying in advance, since not only are they a bit cheaper, but the doors open earlier and there’s a dedicated entrance point which means the queueing to get in is very much reduced.
www.mmrs.co.uk/exhibition

Adult admission is £10 on the door or £8.50 in advance (no booking fee) and all children are FREE.  A complimentary exhibition guide is included in the price.

I'm hoping to get there on a local service from Daisy Hill station and hopefully it'll be a last bumpy ride on a 142 pacer before they all go.:butcher: Course i'm only really coming to see the 'O' gauge class 76's on Netherrwood and the TGB scrap layout.:clapping:

Just returned home from the exhib and to be honest felt underwhelmed by the show. It just felt as though something was missing compared to exhib in the past, and I've been comming since the late 1960s! Sorry fellas but just my personal feeling.

Hi John,

Thanks for your feedback, good, bad, indifferent, it's all useful to know.

It would be very interesting to know what that missing thing is, please - if you can put your finger on it?

I was there most of the day yesterday and besides being busy, it seemed fine to me but I've only been involved for the past ten years or so - which is nothing compared to some!

Cheers,

John.

Peterborough being on the same weekend won't have helped as many traders will have been there.  Hopefully it will be different next year?

Bill Hudson Books and Eileens were at both, but AGW didn't appear at this year's Manchester show. After hassles with the B&B I went to Peterborough but was underwhelmed too.

Cheers

Overall quite a good show, with a goodish variety of layouts and reasonable trade support, with the exhibitors largely friendly and chatty. After about 1100 on Saturday it got very crowded and warm in the main area, and the room with the lego and Thomas stuff seemed way too small to hold all the younger modellers and their parents. I was kicked in the head twice, I believe, although accidentally.

The exhibition manager, again firiendly and approachable, seemed very aware of the sites limitations, especially in terms of space, but I agree with him that suitable venues for the MMRS are getting rarer in Manchester. Unless you can hold a model show over 10 floors of large luxury appartments of courrse, which is what seems to be being built at the moment.

Not sure how many traders it really affected. As said Eileens and Bill Hudson books "doubled up" at both.

Are the dates for Manchester changing next year anyway?
