RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2019 Chaps, Can anyone direct me towards any websites or US forums that specialise in US railroad modelling. I have done a bit of a google search, but trying to work out what are the decent ones is less than easy! My US limited interest is modern day based, but it would be nice to see what some people are doing, especially as several of the US guys go for bigger multi-level layouts! I used to enjoy one layout by a chap whose name I cannot remember that was, I think, called the Siskyou Line? But that seems to have vanished. Any links/pointers would be welcomed, if anyone has any favourites? Rich
brossard
Not a forum, but a free online magazine which I think is superb: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/mrhpub.com/2019-10-oct/online/index.html I must admit I haven't read it for a while despite having a subscription. I'm more interested in British. John
davefromacrossthepond
Rich The person you are thinking of is, I believe, Joe Fugate. His layout was the Siskyou (sp?) Line. He founded (or was one of the founders) of the online magazine - Model Railroad Hobbyist. Here's a link that while different than the one John posted is to the same online magazine. https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/ While I am not 100 percent sure, I believe there is a forum available. The publisher of Model Railroader also has a forum. I believe registration is free, but I could be wrong. Here's a link: http://cs.trains.com/ Dave

There are a number of sites, but none of them seem to be anywhere near as healthy in participation as RMweb. You really need to look around, whether it be blogs, forums, YouTube, email groups (groups.io) or Facebook to find whatever meets your particular need (which is in a way unfortunate because it does make it more difficult) 1 hour ago, MarshLane said: My US limited interest is modern day based, but it would be nice to see what some people are doing, especially as several of the US guys go for bigger multi-level layouts! You are more correct than you thought - the Siskiyou Layout is no more having been demolished to make way for a new layout. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSoFN1nn1vI If you go to the MRH website on the right side there are links to blogs and a forum they run. https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/
RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted November 17, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2019 Try this - especially if you like Craftsman kits http://www.railroad-line.com/
doctor quinn
Big Blue Trains always offers a wide variety of content https://bigbluetrains.com/index.php Diesel Detailer, as you may expect focuses on loco modelling but not exclusively. http://dieseldetailer.proboards.com/ Nick
Andy Reichert
Start with the NMRA.org website and the two major magazines, Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman. I think the MR has an index DVD that lists all the layouts it reviewed over the years. Andy
RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted November 17, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2019 Thanks Andy, I have had MR digitally through Zinio for a couple of years now, but have just dropped it as there's no way to access the video that I can find, where as there is with a paper subscription! But I'll check out the NMRA sit. Thanks to everyone for their help, @GP9u thanks for the email list option, which I have joined. @mdvle Yup, that was the one one. Shame its gone, but I'll have to go and see what he's doing for the new one! Never know I may yet end up starting a layout thread on here - will have to come up with somewhere to run all these Atlas and Kato locos that I keep acquiring!
