rob D2
Operating with early EWS vibe still at present. Another couple through the three tone “ pro weather “ (!) paint shop. 8
rob D2
As I continue my series “ how not to make a model/ change your mind 1000 times “, I’ve continued to work on the peco units - they are ok but need a lot of bracing to not end up as bananas. I’ve been experimenting with some photos on the backscene, to set the location a bit. Banford power station features at present , towering over the TMD. Some of you may notice a similarity to somewhere....

rob D2
Stock projects this week. Bachmann class 66 - only two things upset me about this , the lack of airdam one end if you use TL and the lights config. Other than that it’s lower level of detail makes it sturdy enough for those of us who have to manhandle stock off the layout a lot. I’ve set out to improve the airdam situation by carefully making a hole so the TL can function. That way we have one detailed end and the other with TL but also air dam. Ive a set of Hornby coalfish, that I am improving by painting the insides , slivering the oleos and making the gold top band a bit more yellow. They will get make your mark models spoil loads. I have three unweathered which will need airbrush work as well.
rob D2
This scene has taken quite a lot of time . I replaced the Knightwing palisade with wills and it’s much better . second unit became a bike shop . Lots more to do including renovating the ASDA warehouse a bit and general detailing , before moving to the other end .
rob D2
More detailing going on....this is the bit I really like TBH.... I haven’t that much more to do this end of the model other than finish renovating the ASDA warehouse. I feel the plank works best in EWS era as opposed to BR blue, so I’ll concentrate more on that . Come December it’ll be two years since I took delivery of the boards...I may even finish this one ! Thoughts are also coming up with the next plank - that’ll be a run through rather than a terminus , and may feature snow ... 8
rob D2
Work continues - ASDA warehouse extended and livened up a bit with some roof vents. palisade fencing installed, and the creation of the manky road by Asda, similar to many manky roads on industrial estates where people come for a cup of tea at Kate’s..needs a lot more detailing yet . Had a disaster weathering the TMD as a mix of railmatch enamel and Phoenix thinners managed to eat through the Halfords primer, it’ll have to be redone. I over did the grime a bit too. It’s rather dark in the spare room. happy modelling folks, 8
rob D2
So this shot sums up some of the bits I’ve just done this week. - more palisade fencing - spoil loads for MFAs, from foam board , filler and ballast , painted with railmatch - scratchbuilt lamp standard. Not much budget , so brass tube I used to use as the outer for points control, cross piece is from a support for a conveyor from a walthers kit and the lights are from knightwing car Park lights. Think they’ve come out OK, but look a little lopsided , may have to adjust .

rob D2
Doing some more . I had to respray the TMD as the weathering went wrong . Also added the peco roof vents they very kindly supplied for me from another kit . I’ve made a “ mainline “ sign so in the pre privatisation , all staff know who owns the asset . In reality it’s so I can go back in time a couple of years from EWS as there are some great locos crying out to be produced . You win some and you lose some - I’ve just stripped this 47 body again as the white Halfords primer went on a bit thick . In the process I’ve split along a door for a good inch - writeoff ! Replacement ordered from rainbow railways who are selling 37/47 bodies in primer at present .
rob D2
Still going - ongoing issue what to do with the two kick back sidings ( an after thought really) . Might keep as engineers sidings or maybe put a very low relief distribution centre in . Took delivery of a RFD 47 body - the fun bit is the research to change the number to something unique .. full respray on going.....second coat of yellow on.....looks ok at normal viewing distances ...but a bit gritty in super close up.
pitbull1845
Hi Rob, Good to see you're still plodding along with the layout. for the kick back siding, what about putting hard standing down with infilled tracks. You could then add whatever freight that takes your fancy and the warehouse could be off scene?

Certainly an idea, but I may want to keep one siding for the engineers stock otherwise I have limited space to show it off - sad if it’s all away in the fiddle yard ! i could do an ultra low relief version, similar to Stratford LIFT below which saw wagon load stuff from Wembley well into the privatisation era. ( not my photo )
rob D2
There’s potential here I think ....low relief building slots in front of the retaining wall ( so can be re roled if necessary ), daily trip working or two from Wembley yard.... I need to keep the second siding BR, so I can reverse stuff out of the through siding , otherwise that bit of track gets a little pointless .
pitbull1845
That's workable Rob, have you seen the layout Ringburn yard? That has a lean to shed and associated clutter...
