Banford Yard - Oxfordshire ( dismantled )

Hi,

Banford is 10 x 1.5’. Prodigy controlled with cobalt DCC point motors,

Idea  being to depict a small station and yard , with some features interchangeable to allow me to run BR blue up to privatisation.

I’ve got the basic track down and started on the scenery, the grey thing is going to be a laser cut girder bridge as a scenic break when it’s finished .

I may add further scenics at front of the board ( ie another skinny board ) if it turns out too boring - all track and no interest, which a lot of my models sadly tend towards . Anyway couple of pictures

Work continues - but I’ve changed the theme back to a small station to take advantage of the incoming class 117/121 from Bachmann.

the bridge has taken a lot of construction time and is still not there yet, the grey thing to its left will be part of a Royal Mail depot based on the building behind Bristol temple mills, this excusing several parcel movements a day

Here’s the state of play ....still undecided to have a fuel point or not so that is posed where it probably would go.

platform has just begun, its two layers of 6mm MDF with 4mm of plastic sheet on top

Hi Rob, I'm liking this a lot, simple but very realistic, and looks like a lot of scenic potential.

I also like your puddle at the front, need some oily ones between the Tracks, but not over done.

All the best and enjoy.:good:

WR namer 47078 has brought the inspection saloon in for platform gauging trials.

i think it’s going to work out ok, I have scribed the coping stones on the plasticard, just need to come up with a colour to paint them now

I spent a chunk of time, putting the chip in the new 31102 - splashed out on a Lenz for this and it’s running very nicely. The white head code discs that Hornby sent, didn’t fit the holes, so I had to sand those bits off and affix with glue - only PVA incase I want to alter things.

platform is coming along, this section is the “ test run “, having found some techniques and colours I’m reasonably happy with . Getting the geometry right of a solid lump of MDF would have been so much easier if I’d made the track to fit the platform rather than vice versa : ah well, you live and learn ! I had all the longest locos out to check clearances - Bachmann 45 and Hornby 60.

Banford now has a station building courtesy of Bachmann RTP.

seemed to fit inperfectly with the drabness.

I may have to move it’s location to the West Midlands, as there isn’t any passenger stock really available for my chilterns theme. The 117 that is coming is very expensive at present and the signature stock for later period is the 165/66 turbo, which is barely available second hand and an old non DCC tooling. I can get a 150 for £125 albeit with a massive motor in view !

I have previously commented (on one of Andy P's threads I think) just how ugly that station building is - but as you say it goes perfectly with the drabness.

Believe it or not the school buildings at my primary school looked a lot like it.

Work continues, mainly on the platform, which is sucking all the model time up.

I’ve been mainly thinking about the 2002 era this week , and the bits that need interchanging . Can’t help but have a quick shunt too. This is one of my favourite locos  from the later period . Theory would be Banford was chosen to have a virtual quarry, as well as Banford power station and MOD providing the reasons for stabling locos. There’s always a reason...

  1. Hi Rob, It's coming on well and the Loadhaul 60 in Black / Orange is superb.

As Bogie says, I did have that Station Building, TWICE, firstly on Whittaker St, and lastly on Kings Moreton, and it fits in so well here as well.

Have you thought about the Bachmann Red Star Parcels office to go next to it?

Sorry to say the station has gone !

It just didn’t look right, a large station building with two very small , 3 coach platforms. My station aspirations will have to wait until I get more space.

one thing I’ve always wanted to model ,is a stabling point and yard ,a bit  like bescot. Over the years the anticipation of coming round the corner on the M6 and seeing all the chuffers there was always of interest. As usual it’ll be applicable to 1982 and 2002.

enforced lay-off has allowed me to really get stuck in to a building, which you may recognise as the bescot fuel road in half relief. At the end of same line will be a one road shed in the same style. That way the TMD doesn’t dominate  the few tracks I have.

Class 08 had a bit more gunk in it , it’ll mainly live on this gunky siding .

hoping the platforms done by April , and , finances willing will then host a Bachmann 117 !

Well I’ve had a week at home.....looks like I’ll be getting at least three more ! Thank god for modelling and my treadmill !

plenty of time to make stuff , fuller now has a sign and drainpipe.  I spent ages scribing breeze block for a small building I’m making and knocked up some steps and a new peco bullhead buffer . Might run out of supplies for the model ( like I’ve run out of Atwood ballast, stuff to left is just a base layer of WS )but that’s ok, I’ll move to stock weathering, renumbering etc.....stay safe everyone

Think track work and weathering looks 110% spot on Rob D2

Due to my enforced layoff , I’ve had plenty of time to mess about with modelling. Taking a pause today to run a few trains, as I need a break from painting / sticking myself together with glue.

60007 awaits a light engine move , to operate Banford - immingham empty steel. First 66 in the fueller ( still not quite finished , awaiting drain pipes , roof vents etc ), and this bit of plastic is a labour of love as I’m handscribing bricks to make the building that sat at one end of bescots main shed .
