paul 27
Any difference between the 8pin and 21 pin model from the outside how do you tell without dismantling, not sure if the earlier model had working lights, no improvements to the body either on the latter. meatloaf
I think the 21 pin versions come in the newer style box. If im ever not sure I google the running number and I can usually fins the old product page from hattons where they say if its 8 or 21 pin
paul 27
Yes I was aware of this I was asking what the detail difference is between the two, if the loco is renumbered without a box for example.
SRman
The original 8-pin models didn't have lights. Also, the couplings were screw-fixed directly to the bogies, where later production models had NEM pockets. I'm not sure if the changeover for the coupling style coincided with the electrical changes, though.
paul 27
Yes thanks found my old model no lights as commented, don't know whether to purchase the later 21 pin with the old body moulding, or wait to see if Bachmann are going to update this, surprised there doing the 24/1 instead of the 24/0. caradoc
Probably no point in Bachmann updating their 24/0 in the light of the super-detail SLW version, whereas no-one has yet done the 24/1.

Both SLW and Bachmann are doing at 24/1 - SLW the Scottish variant and Bachmann the English one. With Heljan also doing a 25 not sure what Sulzer Bachmann might attempt next as it's a sure bet that at some point SLW will go for a 25/
pauliebanger
For those who may be unaware, SLW is the short form for Sutton's Locomotive Workshop and details can be found here: https://sulzertype2.co.uk/ Best regards, Paul

AMJ
A while ago I fitted my model with the lighting kit from Express Models. It's a simple wiring job. Mine is one of the original 8 pin boards.

Dinosaurs were still roaming the Earth when Bachmann announces the 24/1, they announced it about 1,000 years after they announced the uprated 158s. The SLW 24 is bloomin brilliant!
