In my view, the removal was a bit of a mess and it would have looked better if the valances had been removed completely, following the line of the footplate all the way round, with the outside cylinders being given conventional cladding. I couldn't find a picture of the top of a real A4 so I had to take a quick snap on my phone but I assume it's there on the real thing as otherwise the snifting valve would be useless.
