The train with the two Atlantics is almost certainly the "Plant Centenarian" of September 27th 1953

[Edit] On further reading of the above page  I see the train ran twice, so the posted photos could habve been taken on either the 20th or 27th of September.

Were the two photos of No. 1870 the same train? Just shows what good-looking locos the original "Clauds" were.

I would say so. The water column and the first vehicle in the train are the same.

Wow - the first one at Turnberry is a real rarity,  The station was on the Maidens and Dunure Light Railway and only lasted from 1906 to 1942.  After closure the platform awning was sold to Dumbarton F.C. where it was used to cover part of the terracing. 

 

 

The station was immediately behind the hotel but you would never know it had been there now.  I used to own a caravan that sat on the old trackbed near Dipple.

The one of GWR No.104 is very similar to one taken by H.C.Casserley that appears in his book Locomotives at the Grouping (Volume 4. GWR). The location is undoubtedly the same - Oxford - as are the weather conditions and the general look of the picture. I would say it was almost certainly taken on the same occasion but from a slightly different viewpoint. The year is given as 1927.

They are  members of the 2600 'Aberdare' class locos built between 1900 and 1907.
