I have a feeling that at least the mid Wales photos may be by Ivor Higgon. See "Ivor Higgon's Cambrain  Diary" by Gwyn Briwnant Jones, Lightmoor Press.

I thought I had a copy but can't find it. Can anyone confirm?

Jonathan

Definitely his style but from a quickish look through I can't find any of them in either 'Great Western Steam' (a compendium of his photos) or 'Railway through Talerdigg' which contains a number of his photos.  None of them are in 'Ifor Higgin's Cambrian Diary'

The photo which made me think of Ivor Higgon was the one at Commins Coch in 1938. However, that seems to have been a favourite spot for photographers of the Cambrian line as I can find examples by several photographers in various books. Sorry to have misled.

LNER station, GWR loco and Southern coaching stock ! .... the latter's not one of the regular inter-regional sets as they were all full width 'Restriction 4' - but this is a narrow-bodied 'Restriction 1' set.

With that shadow, it's difficult to tell whether the set is more than three coaches but it looks like a 'long' set which must be No.465 or 466. The latter had a regular Eastbourne working but 465 was a 'spare' set at Victoria ( nowadays London Victoria ) so it's probably this set we see at Nottingham's namesake ......... but why ? [ Allocations varied over the years - as did the number of vehicles in 465 ]

What a brilliant collection of photographs. Thank you very much for taking the trouble to scan and caption them. I know what a slog that can be, having done most of my Dad's albums, a lot of which are in my galleries here. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/profile/14351-phil_sutters/&tab=node_gallery_gallery

Thank you Phil for your comments. I cannot take the credit for the scanning, someone else did it and passed the file on to me.
