I agree with Fran, it would make viable sense for a.n.other manufacturer (be it red or blue) to produce a pack, however the blue team have already done a pack as a Ltd. Ed. for MR, and if there wasn’t a bit in the contract saying they wouldn’t produce them in their main range, they’ll certainly hack off everyone who bought the originals if they duplicate!

On the red team front, I strongly suggest you pre-order yourself a couple of these:

https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/drs-mk2f-brake-standard-open-9521-era-11.html

If they were to produce the escort coaches - and taking the only current RTR 00 MR versions as a best guess - this release is pretty much exactly the same as you’d get. Obvious differences between this model and the real 9506/9508:

- Blanked end doors. Requires new tooling...VERY unlikely

- Opening windows (coach-side). Again would require new tool...you’d probably get it printed over like their Network Rail stock...
- Small grilles on brake end windows. Would require new tooling or be printed.

So I’d say that if Hornby did do the coach, it would look almost identical to the above, with maybe a printed grille and different number. I’d suggest getting a pair and doing some modelling :O ...or if you don’t want to, just live with the incorrect numbers or get someone else to renumber...I doubt it’d even cost much for such a simple job.

Just my tuppence worth...my Bachmann MK2A pair (bought upon original release thankfully!) still awaits a run with these brutes!

Jack.

IIRC, it was said that the windows in the gangway ends of the original MK2a barrier escorts were class 56 windscreens. Don't know if Shawplan make laserglaze ones of these but shouldn't take too much modelling if they do ;-)

In fairness I don't care if they catch stuff and I just park them up. They are very much a novelty purchase for me! Along with the other 7 flask wagons I have....

They certainly aren't rectangular. Doing the windows is easy. As is replacing the printed grille with something more 3D.

Recessing the gangway blanks is another job - but quite modellable.

I did an article in Model Rail (at least I think it was MR) a few years back, not long after the original release of the coaches.

Edit: The model was released in 2011, the article was in 2012.............

Another working ran on August 7th which didn’t use barriers. Oddly (as the photographer remarks), the train ran from Sellafield to Georgemas Jn then back to Kingmoor in full formation (with barrier vehicles) but the single shed took the flask the short trip to Sellafield. Must’ve been some sort of trainer unless some kind of load went north?

Anyway, very modellable as per most KUA workings:

Oh, and roll on September to see the decorated samples! :senile:

Hi.

Very interested in this thread, and the possibility of acquiring the KUA twin pack.

I know this has been discussed since November last year, and apologise for joing rather late.

I have placed an order for the Twin Pack KUA's, and have the relevant loco's and coaches waiting for them.

Accurascale are a totally new entity to me, and appear to have a very large number of items on

their website, which apparently, don't yet exist : No photo's and no feedback.

When I broached this subject with them, their repsonse was a little evasive ; saying they would be

glad to discuss any matter relating to a specific model, if I wished, but fell short of answering my

question, as to why so much of their gear needs to be pre-ordered.

I have a few questions relating to this:

     1.  Are Accurascale a well established company ?

     2.  Photo's of their items which do exist seem to be highly detailed, and high quality, is this the

          case ?

     3.  Why is the framework of the KUA coloured black. or very dark grey ?

     4.  Does anybody know when the KUA's are likely to be deliverable ?

I have been bitten once, pre-ordering something which doesn't exist, ( JLTRT when Waterman "pulled the plug" and cost me £455), so please excuse my nervousness.

Just to clarify ; I want everthing to go according to plan with this order, as, if it does, I intend to place a order for the First Transpennine Set 1 or Set 2.

Regards

Keith

Hi Keith!

Hope you got my email reply to you of a few days ago with the same questions?

1 - Accurascale was born out of Irish Railway Models, an Irish company established over 5 years ago. Accurascale Ltd became an English company in October of last year as part of our Brexit preparations. Since launching on the UK we’ve delivered the HUO wagon range in two scales, the PCV Cemflo, the PCA tankers, the PFA wagon lines and in the next 4 weeks our PTA and JSA ranges will be in stock. Additionally we’ve shown samples of the 55, 92, KUA and soon mk5 coaches and have many projects underway as yet unannounced)

Our warehouse and distribution is in Peterborough and we have stockists throughout the UK and Ireland - https://accurascale.co.uk/pages/store-locator

2 - We hope so :) Our ethos is to deliver models that are 'definitive' to the prototype and as detailed as possible (even the parts you can't see) at the most reasonable price we can achieve.

3 - Per my reply, the photos on the site are of the Engineering Prototype of the KUA - you can see how it will be painted and finished in this image: Screenshot_2019-12-10_at_17.04.58_2048x2

4 - As per this thread, the Fully decorated samples are due week of the 7th September, with assembly proceeding directly from then, all going well they should be in hand before year end.

Keith,

You can order the KUA’s and other products from a retailer where you don’t even need to pay a deposit to avoid any worries you have. The wagons I have purchased so far are of an exceptionally high quality. The KUA is just a sample which shows how good it will be, the painted samples as mentioned are due in September which I am

looking forward to seeing.

Hope that helps

Mark

Good point Mark! Or indeed wait for us to have the items in stock, or your favourite retailer - there is no onus to preorder, once you are quick  / ready once they do come into stock! HTH!

If you want it then you can either pre order and guarantee* you get it or wait for it to arrive and hope you can get it. It is not a case of "need" IMO.

*subject to potentially getting bitten which is a risk whoever it is you're doing it with, not specific to Accurascale

Hi Keith,

I have 18 Castle Cement PCA's (6 packs), 15 DRS PFA's (5 packs) and every single of them are beautifully made and faultless thus can vouch for Accurascale's quality and not to mention presence here on RMWeb and Customer Service when ordering.

Also have JSAs', KUA's, 5 Class 37's & 1 Class 55 on order either via AS or my go to retailer and feel the quality exhibited in the wagon portfolio will also be evident within their locomotive range, they really make fantastic products.

Cheers

Just to clarify.

I didn't, for some reason get the very detailed email from Accurascale, which answers my questions.

The email, (which I didn't notice had been posted here), together with the recommendations already received, I am quite happy that I am dealing with a totally reputable company, that produce top quality models that have received acclaim.

Apologies for hi-jacking this thread ; in my defence I had never heard of Accurascale and didn't know who I was dealing with, and my experience with JLTRT has made me very wary, perhaps understandably.

However I did, and still do, want what they are offering.

I hope I have used RMweb for the purpose it was intended ; for the un-initiated to learn from a community of those who have the knowledge.

Everything is now good !  Many thanks.

Regards all.

Beware Accurascale are easily addictive.

They've produced some stunning wagons, and when you see them, you need a rake of them.  They do have some obsession about Cement, having made 3 different cement wagons, plus recently gypsum, but they seem to be getting over that :-)

in little over a few years I’ve long rakes of HUO, Cemflo (2rakes) PCA, PFAs (2x rakes), and have class 37 (2x) 55 (2x) 92 (1x) all of which will increase once they break cover, and both mk5’s (sleeper and Transpenine), plus the KUA on order, oh and the ARC PTAs, they’ve yet to sell me their new steel wagons, but my arm will easily twist.

No affiliation, but Fran is a good salesman, who wants to sell models to people who already want them...

my latest purchase is sitting right here waiting to open..

hard to find DRS PFAs bought via Rails
C1BF5542-E5CC-42FF-B40A-3120C9FC5BEF.jpeg.e9a2f95d3780697ada9c5ae74daf5e57.jpeg

And I’ve gypsum on order via Derails to follow.

Oh and finally... do look at their illuminated Rawie buffer stops...

I had bought two 57's, and the MK2 barrier coaches from R3Sprays, now Rainbow Railways.

I had the mistaken impression that I would make two KUA's, to make up the train.  DOH !!

Time passed, things happened, and a couple of years later I still hadn't built the KUA's.

Sold one of the 57's as it didn't look as though I was going to use it.

Now Accurascale have come up with the goods, which has made me buy another 57, arrived yesterday, and now awaiting the "middle bits" to make up the train.

Might be worth dropping a line to Rainbow to see if they would respond to the need for more barrier coaches, now that Accurascale are doing/have done the difficult bit.

Should look great with the KUA's.

Hi Jack

Empties can run without escort coaches (they are not for barriers but armed security).  They do some bits of maintenance at Sellafield IIRC what one of the guys at DRS said, but as you say it could have been just for training or testing.  You know that if there are no escort coaches that it is empty!

Loads don't go north to Georgemas (for Dounreay) but come south to Sellafield and the southbound train will have needed the escort coaches once loaded.

Cheers Mike
