digger62
Hi I have just purchased the Hornby Ruston and had an old Bachmann 36-558A 6 pin decoder which I have tried to install. Unfortunately it seems a little too big to fit. Can anyone tell me what they have successfully used. Really appreciate the help.
RMweb Gold Kaput Posted November 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2019 I managed to squeeze a Zimo MX617N in mine but the chip pretty much needed kapton taped to the top of the motor to get the body back on.

The Zimo can be fitted more easily if its pins are bent into a right angle and with the socket positioned to the front of the motor; an alternative I have seen suggested is to reduce the length of the pins. Opelsi
Just been trying to DCC fit my new Express Dairy version. DISASTER! Ran in loco, pre-programmed the decoder. Carefully undid the 4 screws. Pushed in the sockets as per extra instruction. Body would not come free from chassis. Took considerable force, then BAM. Whole thing flew apart, base plate separated, wheels dancing across the floor, wires disconnected, front and rear hanging body brackets broken. A collection of parts for an attempt at repairs or whole lot in the BIN! Ridiculous design, blooded finger into the bargain - this should come with a health warning. £80 for a pile of parts - THANKS Hornby!

I just chipped mine this evening, I took my time levering out the chassis which came out with no broken parts Nothing wrong with the design at all

My Dewar's version is still apart waiting for me to finish fitting, after I had so much trouble fitting a decoder. I had bought a Rails decoder with built in brown out protection (to avoid having to find space for a full stay alive), but it wouldn't fit, so I got an extension to fit it in the cab, but it didn't fit in there either. In between times the decoder blew up...
