davidw
I suspect that Bachmann are competing for production slots. Slots that are potentially available for more lucrative markets within the parent company? Just a guess, but it along with many other forces are pushing prices up. What's interesting is where other manufacturers are duplicating Bachmann items at a lower RRP (9F - Hornby 2021 and Deltic - Accurascale). The point here is that the end customer is the victim of (a) B announcing a product early at a given price-point, (b) timelines that cannot be met due to internal (and other?) constraints, and (c) spiralling costs in the intervening period, even irrespective of inflation. It's up to the end customer as to whether or not that's acceptable and they suck it up. Personally, the only thing that B have of interest for me is the Bulleid carriages, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the cost is likely to put them into the 'no thanks, I can do without' category. Hey, and indeed, ho.

A retool candidate perhaps??? It will be interesting, as I'd expect unless the find a load of money in it (like they did with the 66 when the Hattons one came along) any new 47s would probably be competing with the newly tooled Heljan one at a similar price given the price of the 57s just out. If they can find the money to take out of it then I expect they'll undercut. If they can't then would they retool, is the market that big? I know people are keen for new 47s but most people who want them have loads already so do either Bachmann or Heljan want to be having to try and support 2 new sets of tooling in the current market? Maybe at the moment they are waiting to see what the Heljan one is like? They dropped the price when the Hattons 66 came out and then the Hattons 66 wasn't as spectacular as everyone expected quality wise so maybe they blinked too soon?

A retool candidate perhaps??? There was meant to be an 32-807 Class 47435 in plain BR Blue livery too, I wonder if its affected or whether its still going ahead. I really dont think Bachmann make the most of their toolings by having such a slow pace at releasing models. You'd have to think most modellers of the last 50 years would have a place on their layout for several Class 47s so even with models being produced in batches its surprising the long time between Class 47 releases. Retooling would have to be risky, assuming Heljan are going after the all-singing, all-dancing end of the market from the price and the Limby 47 at the Railroad end, then where would a retool fit in?

89A
I guess anything on the way for April / May is likely to be delayed by the traffic jam in the Suez Canal. 3
Butler Henderson
Yesterday it was said an old channel has was being used to allow ships around the blockage.
Tramshed
1 hour ago, Butler Henderson said: Yesterday it was said an old channel has was being used to allow ships around the blockage. Alas, on the section south of the Great Bitter Lake there is no alternative channel. In the grand scheme of things another two weeks (if that is what it is) is neither here nor there. Speculation now is that they may have to remove containers to re-float the vessel. Then presumably they get reloaded. I suspect there will be wider implications for the economy than a few models being late to the shops.
