8th December:  A competition for the Twitterati....

Back to social media for todays competition.

Hornby would like you to "follow and retweet" (eh?) their competition tweet (arrgh....) to WIN a Hornby Highland Rambler Train Set (R1220)!

So if you tweet and can't control the urge to, do it.

There are better deals on Hattons advent calendar

Agreed! Hattons is selling the Hornby Princess Coronations around £140, for today. While Rails has been selling them at around £130 for a while now

9th December.  Another straightforward competition.

WIN a pair of tickets to Model Rail Scotland!   All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is enter your details on their competition page.

At least you don't have to FaceTweet to be in it.....

I’m assuming that I’d have pay my own air fare and hotel to get there?

I think we need to consider that perhaps  members of RMWeb are not necessarily  Hornby’s prime client group target. Many better bargains are available elsewhere.

  • The fact that RMwebbers are not Hornbys prime demographic in this instance is well rehearsed.
  • I don't think anyone looks for "bargains" on the Hornby Advent Calendar
  • I perform this service in case something interesting comes up
  • It enables RMwebbers to keep an eye on it without having to visit the Hornby website
  • You don't have to look here or on the Hornby website if you don't want to!

Service ?  What service....this is an open forum. There is no need to bridle at what was posted in good faith and was no way intended to cause offence.

I wonder if Hornby are conciously NOT posting up bargains, as they dont wish to antagonise their dealers?

Imagine how you'd feel as a model shop owned with a stack of R6666 locos on your shelf, not shifting because the RRP was £199, and then along comes Hornby (also with loads cluttering up the warehouse), shifting them for £50 a pop as part of an Advent Calendar deal?

10th December.    A  Signal Box themed competition! (sort of)

Signal Box is getting into the festive spirit with a special Christmas episode!

"To celebrate Christmas we are giving away a limited edition LNER, A4 Class ‘Bittern', an East Coast Express Train set and a Hornby Junior Paddington Train set."  All that has to be done is to answer a question* and provide the usual email address.

* I've not viewed the Signalbox episode, but I assume the answer will be contained within...

11th December. Find the perfect set this Christmas

I quote.

"It isn’t always easy to find the right set especially when you’re new to the hobby or picking for a friend or family member. Well, not to worry because we here at Hornby have you covered with this handy guide!"

No editorialising.  No. No sireee!!!

Slightly off-topic, but there is a Hornby connection.

Both Hattons and Rails of Sheffield are offering various instances of the Hornby J36 in their "Christmas" offerings.  RoS undercuts Hattons by a tenner for both DCC ready and TTS versions...

12th December. Santa’s 48Hr Challenge with Sam’s Trains

More filler....

We recently invited YouTuber Sam’s Trains to put the Hornby Santa’s Express through its paces with a 48hr endurance challenge. Could Santa depend on this locomotive to help deliver his presents to those hard to reach places during the festive season?

And they couldn't run it for 48 hours themselves? Methinks there's less to this than meets the eye!
