RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted December 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2019 What is the 'usual' commercial size of brass sheet that etching companies use? That is the size on which say coach kits and the like are etched onto. Thanks
RMweb Gold chris p bacon Posted December 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2019 Using PPD the smallest size sheet is whatever you want it to be. I generally plan to use 300mm x 150mm as that relates to the minimum set up charge. https://www.ppdltd.com/stock-metals.html
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted December 5, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2019 Photo etch normally use 18" x 12" sheets, they will do 24" if requested. PPD now have a minimum size of 290mm x 100mm. Both require an amount left on all sides for handling - about 1/2" is enough. 1

John M
The stock brass used by PPD is supplied on a roll of 300 & 600mm width depending on thickness. I generally use 0.4mm brass and nickle silver when designing loco and rolling stock kits. I normally set the artwork to a maximum width of 285mm, as PPD advised that it is difficult to process sheets where the artwork is drawn to a width of 300mm In general I break the artwork down into 285x80mm sections which helps keep down the packaging and shipping costs of complete kits
