I would recommend anyone to visit Glasgow exhibition I have been going for twenty odd years and have never been to a bad show ,this years was an excellent one and well worth travelling a long way to be there. The best way is by train if you can as it is hassle free and if you can go first class  its great .This year the layouts and trade were excellent plus fellow visitors are very friendly and each year I meet some great people.Thank you to the organisers for the show I look forward to next year.

Whithorn is now safely back south of the border after a really enjoyable weekend at the Glasgow Show.  Thank you to everyone for their positive comments on Whithorn.  All very much appreciated.

Thank you also to Ian Porteous, and the exhibition team, for a great, and memorable, weekend.  You guys certainly know the secret of a great exhibition!  The bonus?  That was the view from our hotel bedroom looking over Central Station! (AM)

Hello

Thanks again to Ian and the rest of the AMRSS crew for a great weekend and thanks for inviting us. Hope to be back again in two years time where we will be debuting our new layout. See you then.

                                                                                      Cheers

As a post script to Glasgow...  Is this a typical Glasgow modeller's lunch?  (AM)

As the supplier of said supplies, I can confirm that that is most definitely NOT a Glasgow lunch...

it might qualify as a Helensburgh snack supply though! :D

Chairman's perks - ensuring the troops are adequately supplied with waistline-enhancement drugs like Bru, Penguins and Caramel Wafers!

What's not shown in the photo is the communal lunch supplied later... we never will reveal where we got the deep-fried pizza from...

I went on Friday and would like to reiterate what others have said.  This was an excellent show - not just the big layouts such as Remagen, Shap, Alloa, Towcester, Whithorn and Hornsey Broadway but also the various smaller layouts which provided inspiration for what can be achieved in a small space.  The selection of traders was also very good - not too much overlap, but a wide selection and by shopping around I managed to obtain all the bits and pieces I needed and some advice.

As usual, ScotRail's premier service from Waverley to Queen St was unreliable for reasons outwith their control.  In the two previous years it's been delays due to a trespasser and a bridge strike, this year it was flooding.  Quiz for Network Rail engineers - if you lower the tracks to fit the overhead into Winchburgh tunnel,  where do you think the water goes when it rains heavily?

There are pumps at Winchburgh to try and prevent flooding, but sometimes (as we have seen a lot recently, for example at Shrewsbury today) the power of nature simply overwhelms what prevention is possible or practical. It has been extremely wet in Scotland too !

The Scarlington crew had a very enjoyable weekend in the company of some excellent layouts and friendly visitors who were very kind with their compliments about our new offering.

If I had to pick out a couple of layouts, I particularly liked Hornsey Broadway for its impressive scratch built buildings and beautifully muted colour palette, and Bridge at Remagen, again for the quality of the scratch building.

I've seen Alloa a few times but it never fails to impress. Just excellent!

The overall quality of modelling on view was probably as good as I've seen at Glasgow over the years.

Thanks to Ian and the team for their efforts on all our behalf and I trust that the show was the success it deserved to be.

After a long journey back to Scarborough we finally got the layout safely packed away at the club rooms at 1.15am. Tired, but all the richer for the experience.

Sorry, Phil and Mark! I didn’t manage to note this layout when I took the photo and tried to identify it from the exhibition catalogue! Thanks for letting me know. I believe it is Cragganmore - will edit the post accordingly! It was a great exhibition this year!

Hi Marlyn,

It certainly was a great show, I spotted this layout on Friday and sadly never got chance to go and have another look. There were quite a few comments about how similar both stations are although different scales.

thanks

Mark

Many thanks to Ian and his team for hosting us at a very successful exhibition.

It's had its fair share of plaudits and I would add mine to them, without a doubt the best Model Rail Scotland. Loads of great layouts and a real buzz about the show. The whole North Ballachulish crew had a blast, even emerging none the worse for wear after sampling some of the 700 malts on offer at the Pot Still.

From a personal point of view, my new Dapol 29 recently converted to EM gauge ran very well, the layout itself behaved itself impeccably, the second show in a row where no soldering iron on dry joints was required. But best of all was Ruairi my nearly 4 year old grandson (Now a weegie himself)  taking to operating the layout like a duck to water.

Amazing feed back on this years show - its great to hear.

Prior to the door opening Grant Thomson from Clyde 1 and Bauer Hits radio Network Scotland entertained the awaiting crowd in the foyer of the SEC – something that has become a regular slot pre – show opening.  This Year Simon Kohler joined by Archie Brown had the honour of cutting the golden ribbon as part of the Hornby 100th year celebrations, this was later followed by a celebratory cake presented by Ian Porteous (Exhibition Manager) to Simon Kohler and Montana Hoeren

Happy Birthday Hornby

Massive thank you to @PreScoBus for running this very valuable service over the weekend.
The popularity of this free service has grown over the last few years. This year we seen additional services and buses added to the route linking Glasgow city centre with the SEC
Many thanks to all involved.

It blew me right past the Wedding show and into the Railway exhibition.

Boy, was that lucky.....very dangerous and expensive places, often ending in misery and finiancial/emotional ruin.

Why is it that women think nothing of spending £20K+ in such places for a day out, yet if we did the same in Hattons.......

When I got home on Friday my wife remarked that the clientele at Model Rail must have been largely similar to me, ie male and over 60; I did tell her there were some younger folk, and even females, at the show ! On the other hand, leaving on Saturday I passed the Wedding Show queue which was 100% female, any men I saw nearby had clearly been dragged along, being unable to find a plausible excuse not to go !

I would reiterate the praise for this year's great show, and also the free bus service - Thanks.

Yes looking back on it it really was a great show and perhaps one of the classic Model Rail Scotlands, and I've been to 47 of them . I definitely feel the game was upped this year .  My favourites Hornsey Broadway , Scarlington   both having fantastic city scapes . Hornsey just oozed early 1970s grot . That street seen on the far left of layout is superb with the greasy spoon café .  Hills of the North , fantastic . I think I saw the full rotation of trains over a few visits . Put me in the mood for some Oxford Rail Car Carriers ! Hallside with its emus , great .  Whithorn interesting as I kind of know the area. Great scenery on there , beautiful textures . Alloa and Law Junction both well known on the Scottish Exhibition Circuit at least but still worth spending time on .

I spent 7 hours over two days at the exhibition .  I always come back inspired and enthused but this year more than ever . I note that Hornsey Broadway is in the spring BRM , so it makes it a must buy.

Congrats to everyone that exhibited and organised the show . Only problem is how do you top that in 2021 !
