Sturminster_Newton
Evening all, I have been looking at the vast numbers of box files on the market. The question I have is which is best. Common sense says cheapest. But usually cheap is nasty. I am trying to source a wood framed version rather than the almost standard cardboard and cheap tape version from which many seem to be made. I'm also not convinced that the plastic items are worth investment. Any pointers guys?
luke the train spotter
From my experiences I've used the cheapest I could find and it worked fine. It was card bodied with plastic ends and it worked fine. You could always re-enforce it with some wood though. 1
Booking Hall
I got mine from 'The Range', they were 3 for £10, MDF sides with a card lid and base. I think they were called 'Brights' Edited December 21, 2019 by Booking Hall
d&h
Although not cheap, in "proper" stationers seen box files with removable plastic caps, an option if you wanted to put two together.
noctilux2
Personally I would look at a plastic wrapping paper box. More substantial & will give you a construction length of just over two box files. Check this forum as to what can be achieved in the little extra space.
rue_d_etropal
consider using the lid of the boxfile as base. this means you can have ajoining boxes without an end wall. Taking the idea further use large foolscap lever arch files. Just remove the metal lever mechanism. The advantage of either the boxfile or lever arch file is that they fold up for storage, so less chance of damage. Although quite a few people make the scenery to be removed, I consider it better(and a more interesting challenge) to have all(or nearly all ) of the scenery fixed in place. Sturminster_Newton
Many thanks for the pointers. I'll take a closer look at the contents of Staples and The Range. Stuart
rue_d_etropal
just be aware that sometimes the pictures shown online are not of the actual boxfile type being sold. same dimensions and colour but otherwise could be different. I bought what I thought were normal card ended ones and received Staples ones with removable plastic ends. There is a lot of old Staples stock out there as I don't think the company still trades.
